Phenom Hoop Report continued their West Virginia road trip and one spot that was a must-see what Huntington Prep, who is once again LOADED with talent at every position. With Top-100 prospects all over the court and in several classes, they certainly have the makings as being one of the top programs in the country once again, just like Jamie Shaw wrote here (Click Here).
But let’s dive into the full roster, as a few prospects committed over our visit and new names impressed.
2020 Jaemyn Brakefield
Regarded as one of the top prospects in the country, Brakefield contributes in so many ways. He can play inside, outside, handle and initiate an offense, and find ways to score. Brakefield is certainly a mismatch issue for defenders. He showed improvement in consistency with his jumper, knocked down multiple three’s, and using his size and mobility, finished around the rim.
2020 AJ Hoggard
Hoggard has all the tools to be a big-time point guard down the road. He talks the talk but backs it up, playing with something to prove each and every time. On the floor, he showcased tremendous vision in finding his teammates in small lanes but also used his frame to score attacking as well as a smooth jumper from deep. His physicality helps him offensively.
2020 Zach Loveday (Committed to Baylor)
A 7-footer and now committed to Baylor, Loveday is a classic pick and pop big man and he feels comfortable stepping out to the three-point lane. He runs the floor really well which helps him on both sides of the floor, but also his length and versatility. As he continues to develop his inside post-game, he will become an even bigger threat.
2021 Shane Dezonie
May have been one of the most impressive prospects that should see a rise up the national rankings. Dezonie is a strong, physical combo guard that has no issue pushing the tempo or playing in the half court set and being a consistent threat as a knockdown shooter. He gets downhill, finishes, and plays simply tough.
2020 Dudley Blackwell
Blackwell is another interesting prospect that has tremendous size but in underrated in several areas. Blackwell demonstrated solid vision and a great feel for the game on the floor. He displayed the ability to run an offense when called upon or use his size to create opportunities for himself. Blackwell continues to work on his consistency with his outside shot and when that starts really clicking, he will be a tremendous get for a high-major program.
2020 Isaiah Cottrell (Committed to West Virginia)
The West Virginia commit was enticing to watch. He has a long wiry frame but still plays strong and with such a smooth pace; at times, it seems like he plays slow but it is incredibly effective. Like Brakefield, he can score inside and out with ease, using him in so many areas on the court. Cottrell demonstrated a nice feel down low in the post but a smooth rotation on his outside jumper, something he feels very comfortable with. Loved what we saw and should have a great impact in the coming years.
2021 Brayon Freeman
Freeman is another combo guard that plays with a great change of pace, tight handles, and excelled in reading defenses. Freeman also showed the confidence of knocking down the outside shot as well. With his speed and ability to read, it helps him find his openings to attack and finish.
2020 Muhammed Mbaye
An athletic forward, Mbaye has the athleticism that will attract coaches but there is still a lot of room for development as well. Time and time again, he attacked the rim, finishing strong and using his wingspan to his advantage. Still learning the game, Mbaye showed flashes of his potential, especially more on the offensive end.
2021 Seny Ndiaye
Earning a West Virginia offer while there, Ndiaye excels more on the defensive end right now but is yet another big prospect that is just scratching the surface of his potential. He is a very good rebounder and plays strong on the defensive end with active hands. He did display at times that he is comfortable to shoot the outside shot but consistency is an area he continues to work on.
2021 Duncan Powell (Committed to Arkansas)
Powell was another prospect that decided to commit over the week, as he heads to Arkansas. Powell has solid size, Powell has a good IQ for the game and can shoot the ball well from outside. With his frame, he could be used at the three or four at times, but his ability to knock down jumpers is intriguing.
2023 Maki Johnson
Already earning offers as a freshman, Johnson has length and size early on as a guard. Johnson is able to find his opportunities with this team by knocking down the outside shot, getting to his spots, and running the floor. As he continues to grow and develop, Johnson will be one to watch for sure.
