Phenom Hoops went back out on the road on Thursday to check out more teams throughout the Charlotte area, with our next stop being Cox Mill. Coach Johnson has done a tremendous job with this program and they look to be making a deep run in the playoffs once again. But let us dive into what we saw on the court as this will be a fun team to watch.
2022 Marcus Morgan looks to be the leader once again but he won’t be alone, as this is a group that will have depth. Morgan though is one of the clear leaders, as he is a do-it-all, stat-filler guard that plays with a nice understanding and with a good IQ on the floor. 2022 CJ Wilson will be right by his side and both played well this summer for the Hoyas. Now, they will join up to lead Cox Mill, as Wilson brings a nice balance of play-making, strength, and scoring ability.
2022 Rasheed Baldwin is another senior to really look out for, as he brings size at 6’4 and can knock down shots from multiple levels. With another year under his belt, think Baldwin could make an even bigger impact on the court.
A player that many may not remember but should for sure be on the radar for many throughout North Carolina is 2023 6’5 Titus Ivey. We watched him early this summer, as he was still working on getting back healthy after facing a tough injury but he looks ready to make a lot of noise. Ivey is incredibly athletic and explosive, and he looks to be back ready to take off; he should be one for college coaches to watch. 2023 Chandler Conrad, a 6’3, is one of the do-it-all guys that simply put in the work and does a little bit of everything on the floor; whether it is scoring, rebounding, or playing with energy.
A young freshman that could see some early action is 2025 Sean Dunn, who plays like an experienced guard and has an incredible understanding of the game at his age. Terrific with the ball in his hands, knows how to make plays for his teammates, and sees the floor really well.
As mentioned above, Cox Mill is going to be a deep program, so they will be able to rotate players and really use their entire team. 2023 Will Mahoney brings size to the table and runs the floor very well. 2024 Isaiah Dennis is a long prospect that showcased a little explosiveness to his game and competes hard on both sides. 2023 Jack Walter is another guard that really can knock down shots from outside.
There will be others as well that can step up and help provide depth as well for this Cox Mill. There is no doubt there is talent with this group and with the coaching staff they have, led by Coach Johnson, this is going to be a team that will be making a lot of noise this year.
