The month of November has come and gone in a blink of an eye, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t watched some terrific basketball so far from teams around the state. This is why we are here to bring our MONTHLY AWARDS from teams in our events, including the best team we have watched this season. Check out who took home the awards this month.
Best Team: Christ School
Early on in the season with our Phenom Hoops events, there has been one team that has been extremely impressive and that has been Christ School. They have the mindset, they have the offensive capabilities, and they are locked in defensively as well, racking up some strong wins to start the season. One can see that this is a tight group with some tremendous talent that may be going a bit under the radar here in North Carolina. But Christ School has earned this award for November.
Most Surprising Team: Gaston Christian
Maybe not a huge surprise but this was a team that I was curious about watching this season with the loss of several valuable players from last year. Losing the size and glue pieces last year, Gaston Christian could have gone either way in my eyes. But they sit at 7-3 on the season with some strong wins and competitive losses. 2026 Cameron Newman has been a force but credit to the others around him who have stepped up with Coach Duhon leading the way.
Team to Take Notice of More: Concord Academy
Year after year I heard some doubt about Concord Academy, and year after year they continue to prove people wrong. They have done so once again and it is clear that this is a team to take EXTREMELY seriously, as they sit undefeated on the season with some strong wins. They can win in an array of ways and have a tremendous blend of not only experience and young talent but also skilled guards and bigs. They can grind it out on the court or they can put on a show, as Concord Academy has made a clear statement this season.
Offensive Show on Display: Combine Academy/ Caldwell Academy
If you want to go watch a thrilling basketball game and offense is on your mind, Combine Academy and Caldwell Academy would be two places I would check out. Combine Academy is extremely fun to watch with its guard play and athleticism, as they have been putting on a show throughout the season. Caldwell Academy is another team that isn’t having trouble finding their offensive game, as they have talent at all positions and they can put some points up on the board.
Sleeper Team: Asheville School
This is a team that I would keep an eye on, as they sit 5-0 on the season and they have some strong talent that needs to garner more attention. 2026 Heimir Helgason isn’t a secret anymore, as Phenom Hoops has been praising his play early on and 2025 Miki Gacic has been proving that he is a college-worthy prospect. But this is a team that plays hard and is strong, and is one that can create issues for other teams down the road.
