Day 2 of the Phenom New Year’s Bash got underway, as fans were able to enjoy a little basketball before enjoying the New Year’s holiday. First up on the day was Westminster Catawba going up against Mallard Creek, as MC was looking to go 2-0 at the event. They came out with a strong intensity, jumping out to an early edge and really playing hard on both ends of the court. Westminster Catawba started to get going more offensively by the end of the first quarter and into the second though. Westminster was able to eventually tie it up at 25 at by halftime, as 2023 Tim Hall was leading the charge.
Second half was much of the same; Mallard Creek was able to use a balanced attack and get a variety of players into the scoring column, while it was the Tim Hall show for Westminster. He couldn’t be stopped and was seemingly everyone on the floor. It was a back-and-forth affair in the second half, as we remained tied with under a minute to go in the game at 51.
With time running down, it was Jalyn Connor who hit a huge three late to go up by three, and Westminster Catawba had a chance to tie at the end but couldn’t capitalize.
