After an entertaining day of basketball on Friday afternoon in Raleigh, we are ready to roll for Day 2 of the Phenom National Showcase at Ravenscroft high school.  Phenom Hoops continues to provide the best coverage around and if you, unfortunately, missed the action today, here is your game recap from the day.

Game Report:

First Half

In the first quarter, it was pretty even between the two teams, with Greenfield owning a 2-point lead after eight minutes.  Greenfield though started to clamp down and force Henderson Collegiate to take more perimeter shots that didn’t quite fall, as the Knights lurked out to a 37-26 lead at halftime.

Greenfield shot the ball well, taking high percentage shots and taking advantage of opportunities that were provided to them.  After 16 minutes, Greenfield shot 14-for-26 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from three.  Henderson Collegiate couldn’t find their game outside, going 4-for-12 from three (half of their shots came from three in the first half).

Halftime: Greenfield 37 – Henderson Collegiate 26

Second Half

Henderson Collegiate started to fight back and pick up the energy, creating turnovers and getting out running, an area where they thrive in.  But Greenfield took the punch and punched right back, eventually expanding their lead in the third quarter with high-percentage easy buckets.

Fourth quarter though, Henderson Collegiate started to chip away once again with multiple 3-pointers, as Javonte Waverly and Kalib Mathews knocked down big shots to cut the lead down to four midway through the fourth.  We had a game on our hands and it was anyone’s to take.  Eventually tied at 67, Trey Pittman knocked down critical free throws and eventually helped seal the deal despite a late basket from Henderson Collegiate.

The game was absolutely fantastic and off the charts on this Saturday afternoon.

Final: Greenfield 71 – Henderson Collegiate 70

Stats:

Greenfield: Trey Pittman 19 points/ Creighton Lebo 17/ Collin Guilford 18

Henderson Collegiate: Javonte Waverly 25 points/ Kalib Mathews 16
