The 3rd Annual Phenom Hoops National HS Showcase is in the books. Big time players step up in big time games and today, we are going to look at a player that made an impression on fans, scouts, and media. The event was filled with nationally ranked teams and high profile players. Now, let’s take a closer look at one of the players that made a lasting impression on us.

6’3 ’17 Michael Hueitt (Northwood Temple)

For Michael Hueitt, he is wired to score. That’s his DNA. This past summer he played for CP3 and led the EYBL in three pointers, most made and best percentage. That alone is a pretty impressive stat. Hueitt stands a lengthy 6’3 and sports an enormous 6’9 wingspan, not to mention he is an excellent student in the classroom. (3.5 GPA)

At the 3rd Annual Phenom Hoops National HS Showcase, Michael Hueitt did what he is known for and that is score. He averaged 28.5 PPG against two quality opponents in Mountain Mission and Ravenscroft. In the 57-49 loss to Mountain Mission, Hueitt scored a game high 26 points (53% of the team’s points) He knocked down four 3-pointers and hit eight free throws. He scored from all three levels and demonstrated an uncanny ability to score within the framework of the game and not force or try to manufacture his own points.

In the game against Ravenscroft, Hueitt scored tourney high 31 points and led them to an 84-79-overtime win. Once again, Hueitt demonstrated his ability to score points quickly and in a timely manner. Anytime, coach Corey Baker needed a big time basket, Hueitt was there to deliver. While Hueitt has a misguided reputation of just being a spot up shooter, he showcased a vast offensive arsenal that enables him to draw contact, which allowed him to get to the free throw line time after time. He can create his own shot off the dribble.

For Michael Hueitt, he has constantly and consistently proven his worth on the court where it counts most. We have him ranked embarrassingly low in our NC 2017 ranking. Without question, he is a legit top 10 player in this class. While many pundits pick apart his game, one thing is for certain; the proof is in the pudding. He gets the job done where it counts the most and that is on the basketball court. Michael Hueitt is the real deal!
