The PhenomLakesgiving got underway here in Mooresville, with West Cabarrus and Alexander Central getting it started on the girls’ side. West Cabarrus came out strong on both ends, allowing their defense to create points. West Cabarrus really was able to stay aggressive and get to the line in the first half early, but also had a balanced attack to help build an early lead after the first quarter. But Alexander Central started to get going with their size and on the boards, as well as having a chance to get to the line as well. It is what allowed them to stay within striking distance at halftime, but they still found themselves down 34-25 at halftime.
In the second half, the tide started to turn with Alexander Central’s defense picking up but also they were able to run their sets and get easy baskets. Alexander Central started to pick away at the lead, really sharing the ball well and eventually we found ourselves tied at 45 with just under five minutes to go. From then on, it was a back-and-forth game with Alexander Central attacking the paint and West Cabarrus creating well with their guards.
Tied at 49 with under two minutes to go, it was Alexander Central that had one last push in the end and made critical plays in the end to help them secure the narrow come-from-behind victory, 53-51.
