Teams: Millbrook, Atlantic Shores, Voyager, Independence

FINAL SCORE:

Millbrook (NC) 56

Atlantic Shores (VA) 41

Before this morning’s contest, we didn’t necessarily know what to expect. We knew that both teams could compete, and there were several players capable of showing out, but we wanted a chance to check out both squads before making any prior evaluations. At the beginning of the game, both teams looked a tad bit sloppy. The up-tempo pace of the ASA Seahawks seemed to clash with Millbrook’s strong defensive game. After watching the first few possessions, it was apparent to us that the preseason jitters were definitely still in full effect. At the end of the first half, the Seahawks had a commanding 26-21 lead. But after a deep 3-point jumper from Millbrook’s Trejon Jacob, and a few additional defensive stops, the Wildcats took control and never looked back. Bucket after bucket, stop after stop, ASA seemed to have no answer. Despite a late rally from Virginia Top 80 alum Mastadi Pitt of ASA, the Wildcats ended up winning 56-41.

FINAL SCORE:

Voyager Academy (NC) 53

Independence (NC) 41

Right from the start, UVA commit Jay Huff of Voyager Academy went to work. The 6’10” jack-of-all-trades big scored bucket after bucket for his squad. Independence couldn’t get anything going offensively. Drive after drive, the Patriots seemed to struggle. In the blink of an eye, the Vikings took a commanding 14-2 lead. But after a few clutch buckets and defensive stops from Independence forward Justyn Hamilton, the Patriots got right back in the swing of things, trimming the lead to six. We were immediately impressed to see how well both teams handled the rock. There were limited turnovers, a plethora of assists, and many names that really caught our attention throughout the course of the game. After a long, hard-fought battle, Voyager Academy ended up taking down the Patriots, 53-41.
