Teams: Northern Guilford, Lincoln Charter, West Forsyth, Cannon, Roxboro

Northern Guilford 56 vs Lincoln Charter 66

Lincoln Charter

  • Kody Shubert – 2018- can and will be a flat out shooter from deep for Lincoln Charter, showing that his quick release can make him dangerous from anywhere on the court. He has nice build and should be the prime target for this team. Expect a huge year from this young man. He has that Steph Curry quick release. He scored 19 points in the first game.
  • Jackson Gabriel – 2019 – another talented shooter that gives Lincoln Charter another weapon. Coaches son and with a nice frame, he is well on his way to being a good prospect. Scored 19 points in the first game.
  • Jehlon Johnson – 2018 – Big man down low this year for Lincoln Charter. 6’8, big frame, only true post player for Lincoln Charter. He could be a double-double machine with rebounds and points in the paint.
  • Logan Foster – 2016 – senior guard that looks to be the leader of this team. Facilitates and is another jump shooter that can score for this team. Scored 19 points.
  • Overall: It will be a guard oriented team but with the craft shooters along the outside and others getting to the lane, Lincoln Charter could be a team to watch this season. Could struggle against size but very dangerous shooting team

Northern Guilford

  • Andy Pack – 2018 – might be their best overall player on the team. Tremendous shooter and looks like a kid that understands the game and is a leader. Expect him to lead the team in scoring this year. Led the team with 22 points.
  • Jack Emerick – 2016 – big frame but only 6’5. That didn’t stop him though getting points in the paint. Soft touch around the basket and just finds ways to score, even against bigger opponents. Senior leader for Northern this year and go to guy in the paint. Finished the first game with 16 points.
  • Jarrett Boyd – 2017 – guard with nice speed and excels in transition. He is scrappy and pretty good defender.
  • Alec Hildreth – 2017 – 6’8 kid that does have a slender frame but the biggest kid Northern Guilford has on the team. Good role player down low and gives them some size as well.
  • Overall: Emerick will be their go to guy down low and Pack should be the leader of this team. Northern has some solid guard play and knock down shooters that could be dangerous, but still has some young talent that will develop into some nice talent.

West Forsyth 37 vs Cannon 38

West Forsyth

  • Mason Matney – 2017 – solid guard and defender for West Forsyth. Should be a nice complement in the backcourt for the Titans.
  • Nick Joyner – 2016 – played pretty well down low for the Titans and even though he says he is 6’5, he plays much bigger than that with his length. Good defender due to that.
  • Marcus Watson – 2019 – already at 6’6, this young man is still fresh and learning the game but already shows signs of being one of the top players in North Carolina for his class. He certainly will see his fair share of playing time for the Titans this year.
  • Overall: This was a chance for some of the younger guys to get a chance to play, as some guys were still playing football. But the Titans have nice size and length at almost every position and players like Watson and Joyner really stood out and could be players to see significant playing time this year. West Forsyth looks to be a deep team in several positions.

Cannon

  • Jairus Hamilton – 2018 – Already at 6’8 with a strong build, he immediately is the first prospect you look at when you see Cannon. Can play several positions and is very versatile on the court. This kid, if you haven’t heard his name, will be one to remember when you watch this team.
  • Zion Hendrix – 2018 – another young talent for Cannon but this 5’10 guard displayed a nice talent getting to the basket and finishing with a nice touch. Really shined in game one of the HS Jamboree.
  • Cory Deveaux – 2017 – guard that attacked the basket for Cannon and showed that he could be a leader for this group. Defends well and finds ways to get to the basket and either finish at the rim or get fouled.
  • Overall: It should be the Hamilton show this season and there is no surprise why with the talent he showed. But Cannon locked down on defense and has crafty guards to get to the rim. Didn’t shoot too many outside shots though, so it will be interesting to see if they have a deep threat behind the arc much of the season.

Lincoln Charter 62 vs Roxboro 55

Roxboro

  • Darius McGhee – 2017 – Already owns an offer from High Point, this young man really stood out with his play on the court in his first game. Only at 5’9, this kid can absolutely get up, which if you haven’t seen him play, will really shock you. He also can shoot the ball, playing with something to prove every time he has a chance. Finished with 32 points
  • TeShon Clayton – 2018 – undersized for where he has to play with a small team but really has some nice upsize. He played down low for much of the game but offensively, used his quickness and ball handling abilities to get by his opponent.
  • DJ Barnette – 2017 – was the second main scoring threat for Roxboro. Did much of his damage getting to the rim and getting fouled against Lincoln but Roxboro has a nice one-two combo with these two guards at the top.
  • Overall: This is a guard oriented team but showed heart throughout the game and really gave Lincoln Charter fits with the “five guards”. McGhee was the main scorer and should be for the rest of the year, but they also have several other outlets that they can depend on in any game.

Lincoln Charter

  • Jackson Gabriel – when left open, this kid can really stroke the outside shot. Was knocking down threes with confidence in Game 2 of the HS Jamboree. Coach’s son that really is a nice compliment with Shubert in the backcourt.
  • Lavonte Knox – 2019 – young man with nice frame already. He was able to get to the hole and either dish or score. Really liked his game in the first two games for Lincoln Charter.
  • Kody Shubert – might have been one of my favorite players to watch in the morning session. In the second game, he did a lot of his scoring off the dribble and getting to the basket, also finishing the play. Love this kid’s upside and college coaches need to get on this young man.
