Day 1 of the Phenom HoopState Championship was underway and it brought Moravian Prep and Word of God on the court to battle it out in Round 1. Both teams that have racked up the wins this season, it was Moravian Prep that set the stage early on both ends of the floor. They were able to run their offense and really showcase their shooting ability from deep, knocking down 11 3-pointers in the first quarter, five of which came from Juan Gorosito. It helped them earn an impressive 20-point lead at halftime, 51-31. For Word of God, Jai Smith led the charge with eight points in the first half.
Second half, it was an even battle between the two, with Word of God holding the 18-15 edge in the third quarter but the damage in the first half was just too much to overcome in the end, as Moravian Prep took home the Day 1 victory 79-63.
