Promyse is considered by many to be among the best shooters in Virginia! If you poll coaches who coach him and compete against him regularly many would contend no one is a more feared shot-maker than the long, court savvy LC Bird junior. Promyse has great instincts moving off the ball and polished shot preparation. Whether coming off dribble handoffs, using a ball screen, cuts, or stepping in off the dribble he can flat out shoot it and with deep range extending well beyond the arc. His scoring profile which includes the ability to get to the rim off the dribble and smooth and efficient pull-up jumpers is really characterized by his off-ball movement. He shows good upper body strength and physicality engaging defenders off the ball and the ability to get to his spots despite the best efforts of defenses geared to limit his touches. He is masterful at using screens or making cuts and getting to soft spots in the defense, getting open and burying jumpers at a high percentage. He uses the hop and gets his shot off quickly, near-automatic on catch and shoot opportunities. Also, comfortable shooting off the one-two gather whenever necessary.
Promyse is adept at scoring off screens and handoffs, proving efficient both going to and away from his shooting hand which is a credit to his excellent shot preparation, polished footwork, and balance. That skillful footwork allows him to get into his shot quickly demonstrating sound mechanics and fluidity. Promyse connected on four or more three-pointers on ten occasions this past high school season and shot 44% from beyond the arc! A shooting specialist he is! Promyse can also create off the bounce attacking in either direction where he can pull up quickly and bury the jumper when his drive to the rim is impeded or use his rangy strides ability to finish through contact and score around the rim. He has great touch and good length allowing him to score inside. Rangy strides and ample speed off the dribble in either direction allows him to generate downhill separation. Has proven to be a very good passer even in traffic.
Promyse demonstrates great anticipation skills off the ball defensively and is a threat in passing lanes. He can defend multiple positions effectively showing enough lateral quickness to contain either guard and the length, strength, and athleticism to contribute inside and on the glass. He always looks confident and poised, wants the basketball when the game is on the line. Promyse has excellent work habits and his leadership has been key in the development of an otherwise very young team. Likely an all-state preseason selection going into his senior year but certainly an elite shooter and one of the most versatile scorers Virginia has to offer. Promyse is hearing from low and mid-major programs throughout the region and is fast becoming one of the most highly sought after targets in Virginia's 2021 class!
