What Was Recently Said: Moving onto a player that simply possesses a knack for running a team as a floor general, Max Van Weerdhuizen. He’s a smart, crafty, unselfish point guard prospect with a quality balance between playmaking and three-level scoring. Weerdhuizen possesses quickness, vision, and a tight handle, which allows him to regularly dissect defenses and apply pressure as a penetrating threat. He shoots the ball at a nice percentage from midrange and beyond the arc, but can also finish effectively with either hand around the basket. Weerdhuizen also plays with a high motor and team-first approach on both ends of the floor. Next in his development process is working on his ability to move without the ball, as it would make him a more complete player. Coach Lathon on Weerdhuizen: “Max plays hard and handles ball pressure well. He has a good skillset, particularly for his age, but can continue to develop his presence as an off-ball threat.” Weerdhuizen was a standout performer at camp, securing the Playmaker Award, and remains a prospect to monitor over the foreseeable future.

What To Expect:

Being a new addition to a roster can be a challenging task for any player, but Weerdhuizen should have no issue integrating himself within the Cougars’ structure. He’s a smart, unselfish guard prospect with a smooth shooting stroke and the ability to impact the game with or without the ball in his hands. Weerdhuizen can reliably run the offense and dictate the action as the primary creator, but also poses a lethal spot-up threat and is capable of burning opponents with his perimeter shooting. Although he’s a quality shooter, he understands how to mix it up, get others involved, and make plays without needing to score. Weerdhuizen passes the ball well, both in the half court and open floor, and makes quality reads as a decision-maker. He also provides great energy as a defender and rebounder, and is willing to make hustle plays whenever possible. Expect him to emerge as a key piece for High Point Christian going forward.
