What Was Recently Said: After some flashes for Northwood Temple earlier this season, Baldwin has looked considerably better since the travel season began. He’s currently with the Team Loaded Bryant group and regularly finds ways to stand out as an intriguing prospect. For starters, his legit 6-foot-11 frame will make spectators and onlookers take a second glance. Baldwin is truly huge, but doesn’t let his size dictate his identity as a player. He possesses soft hands, solid footwork, and great activity around the basket—both as a defender and rebounder. Baldwin alters shots as a nice rate, displays unselfishness with the ball, and never tries to force the action or do too much. Refining his body and getting in better basketball shape is going to be a major factor in his overall appeal to college coaches. However, between his IQ, strength, toughness, and willingness to play hard, the tools are already in place for Baldwin to become an excellent player.

(8/19/22)

Similar to the previous entry, Baldwin sports an absolutely massive frame and seems to steadily progress with each viewing. He’s a strong, physically overwhelming post prospect with solid touch, shooting ability, and rebounding instincts. Baldwin isn’t necessarily a vertical athlete but is tall, long, and strong enough to finish at the rim and consistently anchor the paint defensively. He plays hard, works for extra opportunities, and understands how to make an impact without forcing the action. Baldwin’s body and general fluidity only seem to improve with time, so college programs would be smart to get involved sooner than later.

What To Expect:

It’s been said countless times in the past, but big men simply take longer to develop. This saying holds legitimate merit, and is certainly applicable to someone like John Baldwin—who is steadily beginning to harness his long-term abilities. Staying in line with the previous entries, he’s a strong, physically overwhelming 6-foot-11 post prospect with an absolutely massive frame. Baldwin has gradually improved his fluidity and general mobility, but still appears likely to continue developing in those areas. He’s a quality interior scorer with solid touch, post moves, and the ability to finish above the rim. Baldwin gobbles up rebounds around the basket, anchors the paint well defensively, and utilizes his body well to secure position (and play through contact). There is clear value here, especially for those who can see the progression and continued upside. Expect Baldwin to collect scholarships over the coming months.
