Certain players bring a unique level of excitement when they take the court, and Mickey has rapidly become one of those guys. What he lacks in explosion, he makes up for with IQ, pace, playmaking, and polished three-level scoring. Mickey is legitimately brilliant at dissecting opposing defenses and making the correct read with the ball in his hands. He’s a knockdown shooter with range and the ability to consistently hit jumpers off the catch, bounce, and movement. Mickey is a scrappy defender with quality instincts for intercepting passing lanes and leading the break in transition. Given everything he brings, expect Mickey to have a notable high school season.
What To Expect:
Although unassuming at first glance, plenty of folks throughout the summer have figured out exactly what makes Mickey such a difficult matchup. For starters, he’s extremely smart and polished. Mickey isn’t a high-level athlete, yet manages to get by bigger, stronger, more explosive players seemingly whenever he desires. He’s a knockdown shooter with deep range and a quick release, but actively takes advantage of what the defense gives him and will consistently pursue the best available shot. Mickey handles the ball well and understands how to mix it up from all levels as a scorer. That being said, he’s also a quality playmaker and very useful spot-up option. Mickey does a great job of deceiving opponents and going unnoticed as a cutter, which allows him to pick his spots and strike when necessary. He’s a crafty finisher and generally exciting player to watch. Mickey possesses nice anticipation defensively and does a quality job of forcing turnovers at the point of attack. All signs point to him having a highly productive junior season for the Cougars.
