Class: 2019

HT: 6'1, 165 pounds

High School: Kellam High School, Virginia Beach VA

Academic Achievements: Honor roll every year, made the Principles List 3 times!

High School Coach Evaluation: Josh is one of the hardest working and most dedicated players I have ever coached! He has listened to Trey Freeman and is constantly working on his game and his body. (Trey Freeman played at Kellam HS for Coach Norman Hassell and is currently an undrafted free agent signed by the NBA Detroit Pistons. Freeman enjoyed a stellar collegiate career at both Campbell University and Old Dominion University). Josh keeps himself in tremendous shape and in game ready condition. Josh is deceptively athletic both with his quickness and his speed. At just 6'1 Josh can dunk the ball with ease! He can handle the ball and run an offense, is an excellent passer and facilitator, and has drastically increased his 3-point shooting percentage. He is our best man defender and many times draws the opponent's best player. He contains the ball, denies the ball, and plays help defense with great desire! Josh can also rebound very well using his strength to box out and his athleticism to go get the ball at its highest point. More than anything Josh is a tremendously respectful, well behaved young man. He is extremely coachable and listens to everything we tell him, and asks questions if he doesn't fully understand. Josh is also a great teammate and treats his teammates like brothers! – Coach Norman Hassell, Head Coach Kellam HS Boys Basketball

AAU Club Name: Virginia Beach Elite 17U

Basketball Achievements: Josh was part of the varsity rotation as a freshman last season.

Coach Frank says: Josh Talbert was one of the more skilled 2019's I saw during the summer and fall. He is a high IQ combo guard with excellent ball handling skills and vision. While he is fundamentally sound the most impressive thing about Josh was his court presence and great understanding of the game. He gets to open areas and receives the ball ready to score, as a ball handler he uses his dribble wisely and creates passing angles and moves defenders. Defensively he is solid on ball and off; he tips a lot of passes, he's always in position to make plays getting into passing lanes and rotating in a timely manner. He does all the little things that make him a productive and game changing player on both ends, he brings his hard hat and puts in work, gets on the floor for loose balls and plays every possession with toughness and grit. Josh has excellent range and shoots at a high percentage, can hit the mid range jumper with very good regularity and scores at the rim. He is a crafty ball handler and creates separation using change of direction dribble moves and playing at varying speeds, he is very good in traffic. He's a tough defensive assignment and is sneaky quick. Josh is an excellent rebounding guard, has a great motor and plays with great confidence. He has a great foundation to build on with his advanced skill set and IQ and as he gains experience and continues to grow physically he will continue to blossom into a player college coaches must have on their radar! He's really an exciting talent and a joy to watch and should continue solid growth under Coach Norman Hassell who is one of the 757's most highly respected coaches and teachers.
