Just because the LIVE period is over in April, doesn’t mean that Phenom Hoops is stopping their coverage, as we are bringing you a ton of post-event coverage as well throughout the coming weeks. Let’s dive into a few players and teams that we saw at the event, as we shed light on players that performed well throughout.
Wildcats Elite 2024 Knight
A team and program that certainly brought college coaches to the baseline were the Wildcats Elite 2024 Knight, as they were a team that not only brought unsigned seniors but other intriguing rising talent that they certainly will want to know more about.
When you talk about this team, you must start with the dynamic young point guard 2025 Derek Ross. When talking about his game, he plays with such poise, a tremendous understanding and feel, sees and reads the floor well, but also can be a dynamic scoring guard as well. Ross plays with a strong feel, being that leader as a younger prospect, but has shown that he can fill it up off the bounce, knock down shots, and be a playmaker for others. He is going to be one many college coaches will be watching more.
Looking in the class of 2024, 6’4 Javier Ortiz has been a consistent presence throughout this summer, using his size, is a natural glue-type player, and plays hard on both ends. When watching him, you have to see the motor he plays with, as well as his versatility in multiple areas on the court. He steps up as an offensive weapon but also can defend multiple positions as well.
And when talking about seniors, you have to start with 2023 6’4 Nayshin Waller. Waller is one that we have highlighted countless times and brings intrigue with his game. He is a tough, smart, well-rounded guard that has size, skill, and athleticism to make a presence felt in an array of ways. He consistently displayed his ability to be an effective weapon on the court all weekend long. And players like 2023 5’10 Camden Taylor, 2023 5’11 Nicholas Kurgat, and 2023 6’0 Brishawn Haywood all stepped up in valuable minutes for their team.
