On November 7th, Phenom Hoop Report will be hosting our third annual High School Jamboree at Proehlific Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. Over 30 teams will be making their way to Tournament Town to showcase their talents to a plethora of scouts, college coaches, and passionate fans. After thorough review of the field, our team decided to put together a little “sneak preview” of individual players and teams that people need to keep a close eye on.

TEAM:

Voyager Academy (Durham, NC)

HEAD COACH:

Mike Huff

2014-2015 RECORD:

29-3

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Jay Huff:

Jay Huff, a UVA commit, is one of the most intriguing young prospects in North Carolina’s C/O 2016. After watching this gun thrive against the opposing competition at Wofford Team Camp a few summers ago, we immediately knew he was destined for success. Huff is an electric player on both sides of the ball with an insane amount of athletic ability for a kid his age. Standing at 6’10”, this stud possesses a 7’2” wingspan, making him a defensive threat every time he steps foot on the floor. He has impressive handles for a kid his size, a beautiful 3-point jumper, and a tremendous passion for the game of basketball. If Huff can put a little meat on his bones, and work on a few minor aspects of his game, we wouldn’t be surprised if he became one of Durham’s most highly regarded players in quite some time. Look for Huff to do big things this weekend in Greensboro.

China Jones:

China Jones is quickly becoming one of the most talked about prospects in the 919 area. After watching this kid put on a dunk display at our NC Phemom 150 Camp a few weeks back, it was apparent to us that Jones definitely has what it takes to compete with the big boys. The 6’5” senior is the type of kid everyone loves to watch. He’s quick, explosive, and determined to make his name known every time he steps foot on the hardwood. Offensively, Jones is an absolute brute. This young gun consistently plays above the rim, making him a crowd favorite at most events. He has absurd bounce, a solid frame, and long arms that give him a slight advantage defensively. If he can knock down a few buckets, and rebound efficiently for his team, we wouldn’t be surprised if Jones gained a great deal of national attention this weekend in Tournament Town.

Chance Greene:

Chance Greene is one of the most underrated prospects in the entire state of North Carolina. He isn’t exactly the flashiest player, and he doesn’t necessarily blow you off your feet with anything too extraordinary, but he definitely makes a significant impact every time he steps foot on the floor. Greene is a gifted offensive player with the ability to score at any moment. He has limitless range, shifty handles, and a dedicated mindset for eventual success. Although he is considered a tad bit undersized at 5’10”, this guy managed to finished 9th in scoring at our NC Phenom 150 Camp after averaging 17PPG throughout the course of the event. D2 and D3 coaches need to take a serious look at this hidden gem. If you’re looking for a lights out shooter with a load of potential, Greene is the way to go. Look for him to have a sensational season for the Vikings this year.
