It has been a crazy time and multiple offers have gone out, as well as commitments from North Carolina prospects.  In our recruiting roundup with Phenom Hoops, we look at some of the latest news around the region.

2021 Dontrez Styles scores big offer from North Carolina

Ranked as the top prospect in the state of North Carolina in the 2021 class by Phenom Hoops, Dontrez Styles has the eyes of many college programs around the country.  Already holding multiple offers around the country, Styles secured possibly his biggest offer yet from North Carolina on Monday night.  His first blue-blood offer, it certainly is a big one for him.  And UNC certainly has made their mark in the Kinston area before.

“It’s very big (for me), I love everything about UNC,” Styles told Phenom Hoops.  “They believe I’m one of the best players in the country.”

Styles is coming off a season at Kinston high school in which he averaged 21.1 points and 10.6 rebounds.  North Carolina has been expressing interest in Styles in the past.

High Point lands 2020 Zack Austin from Moravian Prep

On Monday night, 2020 6’7 Zack Austin announced that he would be committing to High Point.  The Panthers offered Austin back in October and Coach Smith was a big reason why Austin made his decision to become part of the program.

“Coach Tubby Smith was a big reason why,” he said.  “He coached NBA players and knows what it takes to get to the next level and the fact that it’s close to home.  Then, they have one of the best campuses’ in the country.”

Austin is hoping to bring his energy and his athleticism to the program, as well as being a great teammate.

Liberty Heights teammates commit to Mississippi Valley State

It was a good day for Mississippi Valley State, as they landed two teammates from Liberty Heights in 2020 6’5 Devin Gordon and 2020 6’7 Dominique Davidson.  Both have been on several Phenom Hoops platforms and made their own impression on our scouts with their game.  Gordon brings a strong frame guard that can score inside and out, being a do-it-all type prospect that can really help a program win games.  Davidson is incredibly explosive and is a threat to tear down the rim each time but he also has a nice touch around the rim.  He can really make a huge impact in the paint scoring and rebounding.

Lees-McRae lands second North Carolina prospect in Scrivens

The Bobcats staff have done an amazing job recruiting the state of North Carolina and it has paid off, first landing Anthony Allen and now landing Jaden Scriven, a 6’6 small forward from Fayetteville Christian.  Here is what we had to say back in December of 2019 when we watched him play at the Hoops & Dreams event.

“Scrivens is a strong-bodied, physical prospect that puts in the dirty work.  He is a two-way player that is super productive on both ends of the floor.  He also brings explosiveness to the table… all that adds up to a double-double type prospect that screams production.”
