Each and every year, there seem to be players that develop later or ones that slide under the radar. 2021 6’4 guard Solomon Todd could fall into that category but he will be a name many will start to know very soon.
At the Phenom WNC 150, Todd caught the eyes of all our scouts with his play as he averaged 16.7 points per game at the event. The Asheville guard displayed the ability to attack, finish strong at the rim, and also knock down the outside jumper at a consistent level. That is just on the offensive end because he can also be an impact on the defensive end.
Playing at Asheville high school last season, Todd averaged 12.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
After reclassing to the class of 2021 and heading to a talented Asheville Christian Academy, Todd is looking to become a known name in the state of North Carolina and showcase exactly what he can do at a new program.
“That I’m able to perform consistently on both defense and offense, whether it is scoring or guarding the other team’s best player,” Todd said when asked about what he is hoping to show this upcoming season. “I also want to show that I’m a good teammate that just wants to win no matter what it takes.”
Todd’s recruitment has started off slow but college coaches should start seriously taking a look at what he brings to the table. As of right now, Lynchburg has reached out to him shortly after his AAU season with Team Vision but we firmly believe Todd has the talent to be a Division I player at the next level.
What did Phenom Hoops say?
“This was our first viewing of Solomon Todd and we were totally impressed with is athleticism, quickness, and full-throttle approach displayed throughout the day. The speedy guard got to the rim with ease and was able to get where he wanted when he wanted. Todd was able to score from all three levels, but was best at going downhill and was one of the toughest guards to contain in the open court.” – Rick Lewis
“Todd may have come out as the biggest surprise of the camp. The most prominent 2-way wing player in attendance, he showed the ability to defend multiple positions as well as create offense and shoot the 3-ball. He possesses great length, quick twitch, playable explosion and a big motor on both ends of the floor. Todd is one who will jump into the rankings and should see his recruitment blossom.” – Jamie Shaw
“Todd has size and versatility to his game, along with strong handles and uses his body very well to finish through contact. He played with an attacking mentality and raised the bar on the defensive end. His energy was contagious with his team.” – Patrick O’Brien
Player’s Description of Game:
“My best skill set would probably be attacking the basket whenever I want to and also creating for others. I like playing fast pace, that is when I’m at my best but being able to slow down and change paces is something I’m working on.
