William Smith 6’2 160 2022 LC Bird High School, Richmond VA

William has a great basketball frame at a long 6’2 with a long wingspan. He’s very athletic and active as both a rebounder and shot blocker and uses his length and quickness effectively around the rim. I was really impressed with William in so many aspects and it’s obvious he has been coached up nicely. He is most prominent defensively both rebounding and blocking shots. William demonstrates terrific timing rotating, contesting and blocking shots. He’ was one of the most productive rebounders I saw the entire weekend at the Cap City Ballerz Boo Williams Elite 64! He has very good bounce and quick feet. He elevates effortlessly as if shot out of a cannon and is quick to gather and repeat jump. He is active and has great anticipation in passing lanes and as a result of his defensive IQ, length and athleticism he is in position to contest and block shots even on the weak side and at least contest effectively even away from the rim. He has solid defensive mechanics and the athleticism and agility to defend on the perimeter very well. Offensively William shows tons of potential and as he adds more strength he’s going to be a big problem. He handled the ball a little bit and looked comfortable and capable of getting his shot off the dribble. He finished nicely using his length and quickness and ability to slice through the lane and get to the rim. Off the ball William moves intelligently and seemed to find ways to get open in areas where he can be productive. He hit the catch and shoot jumper nicely with good mechanics and is very good in mid range areas on catch and shoot. William is very comfortable facing the rim to make a play although he did convert on a few back to the basket touches. William has very good skills and variety and once his body fills out he’s going to be an impact player on both ends of the floor!
