Northwest Guilford (NC) Vs Trinity Christian (NC)
130 PM on December 5 at Millbrook High School
Northwest Guilford is a 4A public school. Trinity Christian is a 1A private school. Both teams carry multiple Division 1 players. Both teams are young, but are led by senior guards. The wings are the strength of these teams, but they both have some size to bang in the paint.
Each of these teams could very well be playing for State Championships come March, this will be a great early test for both. One that fans will want to come out and enjoy the high level explosive plays and one that the college coaches will want to pack the sidelines to get a read on multiple levels of talent on hand.
Players to Watch
Trinity Christian
6’6” Freshman Joey Baker
Baker is a consensus Top 50 prospect in his class. He is highly explosive and very skilled from the wing. Baker carries Charlotte and Western Carolina offers
6’6” Freshman Greg Gantt
Gantt is a unique talent. He is very long, with great size and a skill set of a point forward. Gantt has the frame and athleticism to be a good wing defender and he has a good handle and vision on the ball. Gantt is under rated, but will be one to watch progress, a lot of upside here.
6’ Senior Mike Boykins
Boykins is a solid lead guard, who doesn’t make mistakes and will surprise with his explosion when attacking the basket. He current carries five D2 offers, but has a host of D1 schools that are watching him. A couple should bite.
Northwest Guilford
5’11” Junior Jalen Spicer
Spicer has been a name that many have talked about for a couple years. He point guard has a tight handle and always plays with a smile. Spicer has early offers form FIU and UNCG, more will come, he’s a leader.
6’4” Sophomore Tre Turner
Turner is a 2-sport athlete with early D1 offers in both football and basketball. Turner is a skilled athlete, who has great length and defends with wing well. Lots of upside here.
6’7” Junior David Funderburg
Funderburg transferred in this year, from Page High School. He is a skilled big, who can shoot from the high post or score from the post. Funderburg is a high academic kid. Time for colleges to really start getting on him.
Matchup to Watch
Jaylen Gore Vs Mike Boykins
This is both players final year, they are playing for scholarships. Both players are tough, and both players are the senior leaders on their team. Boykins is a good straight line athlete, who plays with a great pace. Gore is a lengthy, downhill point guard who defends in your face and attacks non-stop. As we mentioned above, both players are playing for their futures, there should be a purpose behind their output.
Tre Turner Vs Greg Gantt
This is a matchup of under rated wings. Gantt carries great length and unique skill set. He is very skilled and passes the ball very well. Turner continues to get better each time out. He also carries confidence and pace handling in the half court. Both players can be good defenders. Should be a very good match up as both players are stepping into the spotlight.
