Michael Gray 6'1 175 2021 Team Loaded VA

Michael is a strong and athletic guard who combines sound playmaking skills with strong scoring instincts and a pure shooting stroke. He finds a nice mix between creating offense for teammates where he uses a crafty handle, great vision and the ability to get to the paint almost at will while also piling up points himself by stretching the floor with excellent shot making skills from all levels and the ability to use his strong, athletic frame and quickness to get to the rim and score. One of the best pure shooters I've seen in his class, he has the ability to be a prolific high school scorer! Michael can do a variety of things to help his team in addition to his dynamic scoring ability. He is a very good playmaker who can pass and handle the basketball on offense, he can go from quick to quicker and keeps defenders off balance with his ability to change gears in addition to his ability to play physical. He doesn't mind battling inside and rebounds both ends and he defends at a high level. He does whatever it takes to win! Michael has a quick first step and an advanced series of dribble combinations that enable him to get into the lane consistently. He's tough and physical and is able to take contact and finish at the rim. His strong upper body also helps him to create separation for his pull-up jumper as he knows how to use his body to keep the defender off balance and to create separation. He can stop on a dime and elevate into a smooth and picture perfect jumper which he scores at a high percentage from all levels. Michael moves well without the ball and seems to be able to get any shot he wants. He has excellent footwork on the catch and a quick release, capable of scoring the spot up jumper, coming off screens or off the dribble, each with very good consistency. Michael is crafty when attacking the rim using his strong frame and quickness as he slices his way through traffic into the lane. He is capable of carrying a team for long stretches because of dual threat ability as a playmaker and a shooter. He is reliable with the dribble, makes great reads and passes. Michael is a tough defender who contains the dribble and can use his quick feet to stay in front of his guy or his strong frame to 'body up' against other guards. Watch his stock skyrocket as the summer progresses and coaches get the opportunity to see him more frequently as a key contributor on one of the nation's best 15U AAU teams. Michael is without question one of the best players in the state in the 2021 class. He's got big time promise, keep an eye on him!

Team Loaded VA 15U Coach Bo Jones on Michael Gray: Michael plays the point at his high school so we like to allow him the ability to make decisions on offense. He empowers you as a coach to put your best foot forward because he's so coachable and the simple fact that he's just always ready to hoop. He's such a competitor that it wouldn't matter what position we played him at. He brings a different type of mentality and intensity to our team with the way he approaches every facet of the game. I'm sure he's a had a few triple doubles this spring! His confidence in knowing who he is and what he can do as a player makes him such a joy to coach. Then when you highlight his defense; there's a unique ability to stay in front of other guards, contest shots and passes, while following every possession with his knack for hunting rebounds down to start the break. He makes plays for us off the bounce attacking the space, out of ball screen situations, as a catch and shoot guy, handoffs, & coming off pin downs. Not sure how many guards I've coached with this amount of versatility at this age group. In reality, he really has no problem throwing the lob to the bigs or finding another teammate for a better look ever. He's one of our 4 great point guards, and his way off setting the tone every game is by just being on the floor. It's almost like he has a patient aggressiveness. He's a gym rat and never misses practice as well. He reminds me of an east coast version of a younger CJ McCollum in so many ways.
