Jordan Hernandez 6’7 200 2019 Varina High School (Henrico VA)

Jordan is a tremendous physical specimen with an athletic and long frame, powerful legs and upper body and great explosiveness. His combination of power, quickness and length draws intrigue and his versatile skill set makes for an attractive college prospect. He is fluid in the open floor and can grab a rebound and ignite the break. He is a relentless rebounder with great instincts and timing on the glass. He crashes the boards hard, is quick to the ball and has excellent repeat jumping ability and rebounding radius. He is effective on both the offensive and defensive glass and has a nonstop motor! Jordan’s versatility is highlighted most when watching him grab a defensive rebound and ignite the break by pushing the ball in transition and making something happen. Jordan has a nose for the ball on the defensive boards and shows tremendous instincts and effort in that area. Once he grabs the rebound he’s very fluid with the ball, playing with his head up, looking for quick-hitting opportunities. Offensively Jordan shows tremendous feel moving off the ball. He is comfortable shooting the mid-range jumper or attacking off the bounce with a capable handle. Has excellent hands and footwork and demonstrates very good touch around the basket. He uses various moves to get to the basket including a powerful drop step to either side or reverse pivots; his combination of a powerful base and length allows him to extend to the rim with explosiveness. Jordan has a very good touch on his shot, uses the backboard well, and can finish with a power move or skillfully executed back to the basket moves. His face-up moves are quite diverse and he does a good job flashing to the ball, pivoting and making a quick decisive dribble move including a hard crossover dribble move employing a long first step to get the straight line advantage. Flashing to the mid or high post he steps to the ball and pivots nicely to face the rim where he shows off a nice shooting stroke and good consistency to 15-18 feet. Can also rip back through his body and using a powerful and rangy first step can explode by his man and get to the rim where he finishes with a vengeance. He can play above the rim and is also comfortable on 1or 2 dribble pull-ups. In addition to his defensive impact in the paint Jordan uses his solid footwork, quick feet and guards multiple positions on the perimeter. He’s a smart defender off the ball with excellent anticipation in passing lanes. Jordan is saturated with potential and as I’ve watched him over the summer is really just beginning to tap into his ability as a perimeter threat mixing in some impressive slashing ability with his shot making potential on the perimeter. He has the physical tools and skills to have success on the next level and as he gets more reps on the perimeter and polishes his ability to create shots off the bounce can really elevate his game to a level that will certainly draw serious mid major attention. Jordan currently holds offers from Mount Olive, ECSU, Catawba and Virginia Union and has interest from JMU, Hampton, Norfolk State and VMI. He played a huge role in helping lead Varina to a 26-2 record a year ago while winning the VHSL Class 5 State Championship. Jordan Hernandez is in the midst of blowing up big time!
