Jontae Allen 6'4 164 Ocean Lakes High School, Virginia Beach VA

Jontae is one of the better shot creators from the mid-range I had an opportunity to watch this summer. He has a reliable handle using inside outs and crossovers and good length and quickness off the drive. He can get to the rim at a good rate or stop and pop abruptly and under control, looks really comfortable and fluid shooting off the dribble. His length and high release allow him to get his shot off in traffic and his body control and shiftiness helps to make him effective in tight spaces. Jontae is really efficient with his touches and hits the pull-up jumper at a good rate, also moves off the ball nicely or flashes to spots where he hits the catch and shoots jumper with good consistency. Has a quick release and solid mechanics, catches the ball shot ready.

His combination of shot-making skills in the mid-range and his quickness makes him so effective. He makes quick reads and can create off the bounce. He's an electrifying finisher using tremendous bounce, hang time and creativity at the rim. A difficult defensive assignment given his athleticism and physical gifts not to mention a determined and highly active motor. Ocean Lakes HS Head Coach Nic Mace says that Jontae has really worked hard on his handle and as a result given his vision and solid decision making, they're to the point they allow him to push the ball in transition and lead the beak. Jontae also offers a lot of defensive versatility given his mobility and length. He can guard multiple positions effectively and is an active rebounder while also posing a shot-blocking threat. Jontae elevates quickly and effortlessly off the ground and has explosive leaping ability. He gets tough rebounds outside his area and can seemingly come out of nowhere to block a shot. After a solid summer, I expect a Jontae Allen will enjoy a breakout season and begin drawing attention from college coaches.
