Jamaal Madison 5'8 145 2020 Norview High School, Norfolk VA

Jamaal is a lightening quick and shifty high IQ guard, equipped with a variety of point guard skills including strong leadership and game management qualities. He has the ability to penetrate and set up teammates for shots or shake defenders and get his own shot. He can accelerate with an explosive burst, turns the corner under control but quick and then break down the defense with his tremendous ball handling ability. Gets into the lane, draws the defense, and finds his teammates with great regularity and gets where he wants to on the court with the dribble. Jamaal attacks the paint as a pass first threat doing a great job finding cutters and can also get a shot off in traffic and endure contact, gets to the line at a good rate. He does a very good job seeing the floor and reading defenders. Fantastic at controlling tempo and dynamic in transition. Jamaal can shoot the three pointer but is so effective and almost elusive in the half court using explosive change of pace and change of direction dribble moves including low and quick crossover dribble moves to create shot opportunities. Uses the head fake well with the change of direction to keep defenders off balance and hits the pull up jumper at a high percentage. He has a quick release and excellent extension on his jumper. Jamaal's stop and pop move is so abrupt you often see a defender still in his retreat step and unable to recover to contest his shot. He brings so much energy on the offensive end but matches that with a high motor and scrappy, tough effort on the defensive end of the floor. Jamaal uses his quick hands and great lateral movement to cause steals and be disruptive playing on the ball. He has very good anticipation when going for strips and deflections. Tough to beat due to his speed. Jamaal is really fun to watch and his energy and enthusiasm is contagious, he sets the tone not only with his effort and intensity but with his poise and leadership! He is the third Madison brother to assume primary ball handling duties for Norview High School. His older brother Rashaun was among the MEAC's top three point shooters and defenders while playing for UNC-Central from 2014-2017. His brother Damion Madison was an All Tidewater selection after leading Norview High School to a conference title and a state championship finals appearance in 2015. Jamaal looks poised to follow in his brother's footsteps and take his game to the next level.
