Bassirou Diop 6'7 195 2019 Great Bridge Christian School (Chesapeake VA)

We featured Bass over two years ago on Phenom Hoop Report but a lot has changed for the Hampton University commit. Bass has transformed himself under the tutelage of ACC Legend and former UVA star Donald Hand from a 6'6 rebounding machine to a 6'7 silky smooth wing with plenty of skill on both ends of the floor to warrant mid major attention. Bass is a dynamic wing player with great length at just over 6'7 with a 7'0 wingspan, incredibly agile with a strong scorer's mentality. He has the ability to essentially score at will on the high school level! He is a special player offensively with sound post skills to go along with an NBA-range jumper and a capable handle. His ability to pull up off the dribble is absolutely lethal for a player his size and his ability to create separation off powerful crossovers and step backs is impressive. Simply dominates most high school competition and top defenders as his combination of height, length, athleticism, and skill is difficult to match. He’s skilled and instinctual enough to have an offense run through him and capable of producing regularly at all three levels. Bass is a very fluid athlete who runs the floor like a guard, can take the dribble coast to coast and dunk in traffic or pull up and hit the jumper off the bounce. He has really developed in to a knock down shooter in the mid range both off the bounce and when coming off screens, his high release and obvious length complimenting sound shooting skills and discipline and his explosive uplift into his shot. Bass can also rip and get to the rim employing his long rangy strides and a quick burst, uses the jab step and ball fakes effectively. He can slice his way to the rim with quickness and finish with an emphatic slam or in crafty style using the glass nicely on non dunk finishes. Has the ability to stretch the floor with the three ball with great range out beyond the NBA three which complements his ability to beat many defenders off the bounce creating nightmares for defenses. Bass has excellent footwork defensively and good lateral quickness and has proven capable of defending his position in space having enjoyed success on the wing at St Frances Academy in Maryland and on the Under Armor Circuit with Team Thrill playing a national schedule and having to defend some of the top players in the country. Bass plays with a high motor, never takes plays off and brings great energy on both ends of the floor. His length helps but his nose for the basketball, effort and instincts help to make him a high volume rebounder. He is quick off the floor and has an excellent second and third jump. Bass has great timing for blocked shots and has tremendous mobility as he patrols the lane defensively, switching screens easily. It's a testament to his IQ and his work ethic that Bass has been able to compliment his dominant paint presence with a productive perimeter game and become more of a complete player. As he bulks up he's going to be scary! He has verballed to Hampton University.
