Jayan Walker

Phenom Hoops continues their travels around the state of North Carolina to check in on the talent around the state.' Wednesday night, we took in Northern Durham as they went over to Jordan high school.' Jordan has been a program of interest this season with the talent and their success so far, as they look to be a team to be reckoned with. 'They came out strong against Northern Durham at home, ultimately leading early after the first quarter by double-digits.' They continued and expanded onto that lead by halftime, as Jordan's defense was stifling, creating turnovers, and turning it into points.' They led 33-16, as 2024 Jayan Walker led the charge with 12 first-half points, while Walker Woodall had 11 (knocking down shots from three).' Second half was much of the same, but 2022 Derrion Hicklen led the charge for Northern Durham, consistently scoring the ball, aggressively attacking, and getting to the line as he scored 14 second-half points.'

Overall though, Jordan was able to really be aggressive defensively, apply full-court pressure, and attack in transition, as they led by 20+ points in the fourth on their way to a 68-45 victory.

Stats:
Jordan: Clash Peters 14 points/ Walker Woodall 13 points/ Jayan Walker 12 points/ Ronald Bridges 10 points
ND: Derrion Hicklen 14 points/ Nick Westmoreland 8 points/ Kameron McClellan 6 points

Standouts/ Thoughts:

  • Was interested in seeing 2024 6'5 Jayan Walker in action and certainly see the intrigue with his game.' He uses and understands his length very well on the court, creating for himself, getting into the paint, displaying his mid-range game, and attacking the boards for putbacks.' Active prospect that can play multiple positions on the court and should only continue to develop more of his outside game.' Nearly finished with a double-double with 12pts, 8rebs.
  • 2023 Clash Peters, a 6'9 prospect, was another that intrigued me.' Peters has nice touch and timing around the basket, isn't afraid to battle on the boards, blocks shots without fouling, makes unselfish passes for a big, and can pop out at the perimeter when available. 'Went for 14pts, 9rebs, and 3blks.
  • I liked what I saw out of the guard play on the court for both teams.' 2022 Dawson Edwards (Jordan) did an excellent job finding his teammates, racking up nine steals, and also being creating steals (6).' Quick guard on the floor.' 2023 Walker Woodall really opens up the floor with his ability to knock down shots from the perimeter for Jordan.' For Northern Durham, 2022 Derrion Hicklen showed how much of a competitor he is on the court. He scored in a variety of ways, stayed aggressive and got to the line, and created for himself.' 2024 Nick Westmoreland was another that played with a great motor and was able to score/create inside the arc.
