The college basketball season is quickly approaching and several teams are gearing up with a few exhibition games.  One game that I was curious in tuning into was Mount Olive vs. High Point, as this was a game loaded with familiar faces.

High Point came out strong and quickly went up by double-digits just a few minutes into the game. They were able to make several key runs to continue expanding their lead. High Point shot several high-percentage shots in the first half and was dominant on the boards, as the Panthers shot 61.4 percent in the first half. Zack Austin had 16 points and Emmanuel Izunabor had a double-double by halftime, 12 points and 10 rebounds. Their strong performances helped High Point out to a 59-24 halftime lead. LJ Johnson led the charge with eight points for Mount Olive.

The second half was much of the same, as High Point continued to increase their lead and get some of their other guys into the game as well as younger players.  Mount Olive did make a run in the second half to cut into the deficit but the Panthers were able to answer. High Point really had it going offensively, shooting the ball really well in this game, as they ultimately secured the 95-70 win.

Stat Leaders:
High Point: Zack Austin 20pts, 9rebs/ Emmanual Izunabor 16pts, 17rebs/ Jaden House 14pts/ John Michael Wright 13pts, 10rebs, 6asts/ Alex Holt 12pts, 6rebs

Mount Olive: Ryan Archey 14pts/ LJ Johnson 8pts/ Colin Radcliffe 8pts

Standouts:

Emmanuel Izunabor (High Point): The junior big man had a very strong performance, racking up a double-double by halftime. After averaging 4.9 points and 4.1 rebounds last year, this could be the season that the long forward really breaks out. It started out well, as he was incredibly active on both ends, was all over the boards on both sides, blocking shots, and scoring very effectively and strong at the rim. High Point would love to see this kind of impact from the rising junior this year.

Zack Austin (High Point): Fans had to be excited about what they saw from Austin.  The sophomore forward didn't play last year but really showcased his impact on the court.  The 6'5 prospect moved well without the ball and created well for himself, getting into the paint and showing touch, but also stepping out, getting to his spots, and knocking down shots from the perimeter.  Really good showing for Austin to start his season.
