In the 2A Division, Trinity Academy and Gaston Day battled it out as they both were looking to get one step closer to a championship.  The stars were out in this one, as both teams got a chance to feel each other out, as Gaston Day was able to gain the early lead behind their guard play (24-23).  Trinity's seniors in Noah Ross and Sam Perez came out strong as well early. Second quarter though, Trinity turned it up a notch on both ends as they were able to get several players involved and the energy picked up, especially with a transition throwdown from Ross to give his team a 32-24 with three minutes left before halftime. Both teams traded baskets for the most part, with Gaston Day hitting a big three late to be down 38-31 at halftime.

Gaston Day came out strong and with some fight to their game, as they were able to chip away at the lead getting it down to as many as two points but Trinity had an answer late to expand their lead, allowing some key defensive plays lead to offense. At the end of the third, Trinity held the narrow 56-50 lead. Heading into the fourth quarter, we had a great game on our hands. Chris Britt and Evan Montanari's shooting continued to shine for Gaston Day but the trio of Vanderhorst, Ross, and Perez stepped up late to ultimately secure the 81-73 victory.

Final: Trinity Academy 81 – Gaston Day 73

Stats:
Trinity: Kevon Vanderhorst 22/ Noah Ross 19/ Trevor Barrett 15/ Sam Perez 14
Gaston: Chris Britt 27/ Evan Montanari 18/ Callum Richard 10

Standouts:

  • Have to give it up to the two juniors in Kevon Vanderhorst and Trevor Barrett for Trinity Academy. Both guards made some terrific plays, as Barrett knocked down some big shots all throughout the game and Vanderhorst made play after play, finishing well in the second half. Both really made big plays to help their team.
  • 2022 Noah Ross and 2022 Sam Perez both also stepped up as seniors, as they should. Ross used his frame, strength, and ability to finish in this game, really making his mark in the paint and creating for himself, as well as bringing tremendous energy. Perez continues to showcase his versatility on the court and be a mismatch on the court.
  • 2022 Chris Britt continued his strong season and led the charge once again for Gaston Day. The quick guard does a tremendous job in creating for himself and openings for his shot. Tough, strong, physical guard that plays so hard on the court.
  • 2023 Evan Montanari was key for Gaston with his ability to get to his spots and be that threat from the perimeter, knocking down six three-pointers in the game. Smooth, confident shooter that has the green light for this team.
