Phenom Hoops continues to check out teams and hit the road this season, sitting in the stands for an intriguing game around the Concord area. This was actually a rematch of a game that happened the night before, with Central Cabarrus securing the narrow win on the road. Now, Round 2.
Central Cabarrus may be a team or program some may not be familiar with but we can say it now… you will want to take notice of them this season. Both teams got after it on both ends, playing at a high pace, pushing the ball in transition, and attacking, while also looking to get after it on the defensive end. It was Central Cabarrus though that came out strong and seemingly showing they are the real deal. Their defense led to their offense, as they were swarming and trapping, creating turnovers, and also getting on the boards. It helped them get out to an 18-11 first-quarter lead. They continued to do the same in the second quarter but Cox Mill made a strong run towards the in to cut into the lead, only down 34-29.
Second half though, it was all Central Cabarrus… They simply got it done on both ends, having their defense swarm Cox Mill, played with terrific energy, and left it all out there on the court. Their defense helped get their offense out and running, sharing the ball around and getting everyone involved. Senior Tre Bost led the way but it was a full team effort, as they continued to spread their lead, surpassing the 30-point mark in the fourth. In the end, Central Cabarrus secured the 86-53 win to remain undefeated.
Stats:
Central Cabarrus:
Tre Bost 23 points
Te’Veon Glover 14 points
Adriel Miller 13 points
Cox Mill:
Jaylen Hamilton 11 points
John Anthony Baker 11 points
Standouts:
2021 Tre Bost (Central Cabarrus): The senior stepped up big in this one and was tremendous, playing strong all game long, scoring in an array of ways, and doing a lot of the little things. Whether it was Bost attacking the basket or pulling up from mid-range or from deep, he simply couldn’t miss but also plays really strong, gets on the boards, and plays hard on defense.
2023 Adriel Miller (Central Cabarrus): Miller did a little bit of everything and you have to appreciate the energy he brought to the court. The young prospect made several hustle plays, got out in transition, finished well attacking the rim but also knocking down shots from three. He played really well and played hard all game long.
2021 Jaylen Hamilton (Cox Mill): The senior big provided a physical force down in the paint, playing strong and finishing strong. Really liked his activity level on the boards as well. With his frame, he was able to embrace contact and finish or get to the line, as he was one of the more consistent threats on the court for Cox Mill.
