The Phenom Challenge is one of the biggest events around the region and in the country, as 180 teams look to compete at the highest level.
We are expecting a HUGE turnout for this event in Spartanburg, SC on April 26-28. So, Phenom Hoop Report wants to do our part in starting the buzz for the event.
Players and teams, of all ages, will have a chance to play in front of college coaches throughout the weekend. But here are a few players to watch out for, as we preview teams that will be competing.
Check out a few names to look out for.
Team: Flight 22 Asheville 17u
Jaxzen “JT” Laws (2020, 5’11 Point Guard, North Buncombe HS)
All-Conference Guard out of the WMAC. Very good outside shooter with excellent court vision. Does a great job pushing the ball up the floor in transition. High IQ player.
Tyler Parton (2020, 5’10 Point Guard, AC Reynolds HS)
All-Conference Guard/ All tournament out of WMAC. Very shifty off the dribble and does a great job getting to the rim and drawing contact. Tenacious defender, with a motor that does not stop.
Tyrece Thompson (2020, 6’3 Guard, Asheville High)
All-Conference/ All-tournament in WMAC/ All-district first team/ All WNC first team. Tyrece is a big and physical guard and he is still growing. Very good outside shooter and does a great job getting to the rim and finishing with either hand.
Jakari Thompson (2020, 6’3 Wing, AC Reynolds HS)
Jakari is a long and athletic lefty. He does a tremendous job on the boards and has a great midrange game. He often poses a mismatch for smaller guards.
Nathaniel Ledford (2020, 6’1 Shooting Guard, Mountain Heritage HS)
Nate was named All-Conference Tournament MVP for Mt. Heritage. He can really light it up from beyond the arc. Sprints the floor very well in transition.

All-Conference Guard out of Brevard. Shoots the ball very well from any spot on the floor. Crafty finisher around the rim. Caden is a very intelligent player and makes sure his teammates are in the right spots and making correct adjustments.
