Phenom Hoops continues to get in touch with players around the state, this time talking to 2023 Freddie Dilione who is helping lead the charge at Word of God. They have gotten out to a strong start and this is a program to certainly watch this season, as they had incredible talent and added some key pieces. We dive into the latest with Dilione to learn his thoughts about this season and what is the latest with his recruitment.


Phenom: How has everything been going as far as basketball for you'
Dilione: Pretty good, just working.

Phenom: I know you have been putting in the work to prepare for this season. What all have you been focusing on with your game and preparing for this season'
Dilione: I'm focusing on leading and being a point guard and my jump shot.

Phenom: You came into Word of God last year and eventually found your stride.  But now, you are one of the clear leaders for this team.  How are you embracing or looking at that'
Dilione: I'm just going hard in practice and becoming a vocal person to help my guys

Phenom: What has it been like playing with your teammates this season in the Hoop State League'
Dilione: It helped us build chemistry and know personally how to help my guys.

Phenom: You have a very talented team. What is your excitement in playing with your teammates and how good do you think you all can be'
Dilione: I think we can be the best team in the country, we just have to come prepared before every game.

Phenom: Got some big-time athletes.  How much fun is it to play with them'
Dilione: It is a lot of fun because I have a variety of players that can do everything, so it just makes it easier for me as a point guard.

Phenom: What are your team goals this season'
Dilione: Win every game.

Phenom: how has your game improved in the last year' Any areas of focus for you'
Dilione: Shooting the ball and handling the ball with pressure, as well as being vocal.

Phenom: Your recruitment was going steady before but when you announced that you would be part of the 2023 class, it really took off.  What has that been like, seeing your recruitment take off'
Dilione: I think it is about time, just a little bit of the work coming to people's attention but I just have to remain humble.

Phenom: What have the coaches in general been saying they like about your game'
Dilione: They love my game; they think of me as a versatile guard that can make a play or score at any time.

Phenom: Schools like Houston, Penn State, Xavier, and others all offered when you were part of the class of 2022.  Have they been staying in touch with you'
Dilione: No contact with them.

Phenom: After your recruitment, schools like LSU, Virginia The, Wake Forest, VCU, Charleston, and Radford all offered. What did they have to say about your game and was there any offer that grabbed your attention'
Dilione: They all love my game. VCU is hard on getting me the most.

Phenom: Have you been able to visit any schools'
Dilione: VCU and Wake Forest.

Phenom: Do you have any schools you want to visit down the road' Any dates'
Dilione: Not yet

Phenom: When learning and looking at these schools, is there any that you are looking at specifically'
Diliione: VCU.

Phenom: Is there any chance you may move back to the class of 2022'
Dilione: I'm not sure yet.

Phenom: You know about the talent in NC. Wanted to get your thoughts on just the amount of talent there is in the state'
Dilione: I love it; it makes the games much more fun and exciting.
