The 2023 class in North Carolina is stacking up pretty nicely and 2023 Comeh Emuobor has proven that he is one of the premier talents in the class with his play. The 6’5 combo guard from Ravenscroft continues to play at a high level, as he is looking to push his team even further. One of the clear leaders, he continues to put in the work to develop his game and show that he can be a dynamic guard at the next level. That is why schools like UNCG, Illinois, Elon, South Carolina, USF, NC A&T, and Virginia Tech have all offered already.
We spoke to Emuobor to check up on the latest, from how the season is going, the work he has been putting in with his game, and the latest in his recruitment. Check out what he had to say.
Phenom: How has everything been going this season for you and your team'
Emuobor: The season has been good so far; we have a tough schedule so we have been ready to compete at a high level every night. Everyone knows that, so we've just been going out there getting it done.
Phenom: You are one of the clear leaders for this group this season. How have you taken that upon yourself and taken on that role'
Emuobor: Taking the leadership role has made me step out of my comfort zone and throughout my basketball career, that is what has helped my game continue to improve. I lead by example and verbally. Not only am I able to get myself going, but I have the skill to get my teammates going also.
Phenom: What are your thoughts on this year's team so far' Got some good pieces. How do you all operate on the floor together and what have you seen so far'
Emoubor: We have a really underrated team. A lot of people don't even know because we don't have names like other teams around the state, for example, Alex Olander 6'4 athletic 2024 who plays really strong and can finish at the rim and is improving his jumper; a prospect to really look out for. We just have some underappreciated pieces but as time goes on, I believe we will be in more conversations as a top team in the state.
Phenom: How have you elevated your play this season overall with your game'
Emuobor: I've taken another leap this season into becoming that true three-level scorer that plays on the ball because a lot of people thought I really couldn't handle the ball and be a shot creator but I've shown that and make plays for others with the ball in my hands as well.
Phenom: What's been going on as far as your recruitment these days'
Emuobor: It's been good, a lot of schools keeping in contact who haven't offered and the ones who have as well.
Phenom: Picked up a few new offers over the last few months. Just wanted to get your thoughts on them and what they communicated with you so far'
Emuobor: All the schools have told me how I'd fit in their style of play and how they like my game.
Phenom: Have you been able to visit any of those schools'
Emuobor: I've visited Georgia Tech, Georgia, South Carolina, and Elon.
Phenom: How did those two visits down in Georgia go for you' What all did get to see and do'
Emuobor: At both schools, I got to see all the facilities and sit down and talk with the head coaches.
Phenom: Anything stand out about either one'
Emuobor: Can't really put one above the other as of right now since it is so early but they all have a fair share of things that make them unique from one another.
Phenom: South Carolina was one of your newer offers. What have they been saying to you and does anything stand out about them'
Emuobor: They really like how I take pride defensively. They've expressed how my game would fit their playstyle so much.
Phenom: How was that visit to Elon and earning an offer then'
Emuobor: It was good, I got to meet the entire coaching staff and how they run things over there.
Phenom: What other schools have been showing strong interest your way these days'
Emuobor: Minnesota, Vanderbilt, Florida, and others.
Phenom: What have they been saying to you'
Emuobor: They all love the type of person I am and how my game fits their program.
Phenom: Would you say there has been stronger interest with any program in your eyes' Any other visits as well planned'
Emuobor: I haven't set any dates but planning on visiting some soon. I can't really say what my strongest interest is but all the schools that are recruiting me that haven't offered are showing a strong case on why I'd fit their program.
