Palmetto Classic
West Charlotte vs Christian Academy of MB
Day 3 at the Palmetto Classic is here and with it, we have 6 more games on tap. Game 2 on the day puts West Charlotte against Christian Academy of MB. Both teams come into this one 1-1 on the event looking to get out of town with a winning record on the week. MB is a bit beat up, having lost 2 starting guards on day 1 but feature a talented and bouncy roster that fought through it and got the win on day 2. West Charlotte counters with Patrick Williams, one of the most naturally gifted players in NC, and company and knows how to put points on the board. Who leaves this one on a high note' We were about to find out.
Neither team looked especially sharp to start the game as a sloppy first quarter saw both teams miss more than they made on the way to a 12-7 first quarter (12-7 WC). Things would pick up some as we went into half at 24-18 (WC up), but the game had not really picked up as we had expected. It would be a trend that would continue but with WC opening up a 9 point lead going into the 4th quarter. MB would not be able to get back in this one though and would fall to the score of 48-40.
Players of note:
West Charlotte:
Cartier Jerrnigan, 6’ 2019 G – Quick guard with a pull-up game so lethal it should be illegal. Plus handles and speed allows him to eat whenever he wants on offense. (18p/7r/4a)
Patrick Williams, 6’8 2019 F – Simply a dominant and special talent. Nothing he can’t do on a basketball court. Picture perfect jumper. (7p/3r/2a)
Christian Academy of MB:
Davis Guyton, 6’6 2019 F – Sweet shooting big knocked down jumpers all week long here. One of the prettier jumpers and cleaner releases you will find. (19p/3r 5 made 3’s)
Jalen Matthews, 6’1 2019 G – Nice motor on this kid drives production. Back to back solid games. Nice all-around skill set here. (5p/8r/2a)
