Day 2 of the Overtime Elite Prep Challenge got underway, as Liberty Heights, Combine Academy, and Winston Salem Christian were all back in action. Phenom Hoops was on deck to cover Day 1, as you can find all the recaps here (Click Here). Here are the Day 2 recaps and stats.
Overtime Gomes vs. Winston Salem Christian
Overtime: 88 (23-20-27-18)
WS Christian: 75 (22-12-22-19)
Day two of the Overtime Elite Prep Challenge got underway at Combine Academy, as Overtime Gomes and Winston Salem Christian were back on the court once again. Both teams came out strong in this one, with Overtime Gomes earning the narrow 1-point lead after the first quarter, 23-22. Second-quarter though, they were able to create a little space between them and WS Christian led by Jazian Gortman with 11 first-half points and Lewis Duarte with 10. WS Christian though came to play and were only down nine at halftime, as Quante Berry led the charge with 15 first-half points. In the second half, Overtime was able to maintain their lead and eventually get it into double-digits but never fully breaking away, as WS Christian continued to grind it out. In the end though, Overtime Gomes came away with another win, defeating WS Christian 88-75.

Overtime Leitao vs. Liberty Heights Varsity
Overtime: 63 (10-17-15-14-4)
Liberty Heights 61 (17-13-12-17-2)
Second game on the night, Liberty Heights Varsity was in action against Team Leitao and boy, did fans get a treat in this one. Liberty Heights came out relentless in the first quarter, helping themselves jump out to an early 17-10 first quarter lead. Liberty, led by their leaders in the Simpkins twins, came out strong on both ends and brought a ton of energy, playing scrappy basketball and making it tough defensively. Overtime was able to cut into the lead by halftime but still found themselves down 30-27. In the second half, it was a dog fight on the floor, both teams competing at a high level and playing extremely hard on both ends. Both Simpkins twins, Tajuan and Takai, came up big at times as well as Josiah Dow for Liberty Heights. Bryson Warren and company also came up big for Overtime, as it came down to the wire. This one eventually went into overtime, tied at 59, and it was the first team to 63 wins. Tied at 61, that is when Bryce Griggs came up big with a foul-line jumper to end the game and secure the 63-61 victory for Overtime.
