On Monday, Phenom Hoops had the opportunity to travel down to Charlotte and watch North Meck practice. Coach Duane Lewis is one of the best coaches in the state. He has done an exceptional job with his teams every year. Last year, North Meck won the state championship and finished top 25 in the country.

We were extremely impressed with how Coach Lewis ran his practice. His players competed at the highest level. With multiple college level players each player has to compete every day in order to get playing time.

Chris Ford 2021 – Davidson Signee

Chris is a match-up nightmare. He is the type of player that you want on your team. He does a little bit of everything. We love his energy and passion that he brings to the game. His strong frame allows him to make an impact on both sides of the ball. He has a unique ability to get into the lane and finish around the rim. He is not scared to give up his body, diving after loose balls, and taking charges. He is an underrated playmaker who is able to create plays for himself and others. He is a quiet leader who leads by example.

Jeremy Gregory 2022 6'7.5

Jeremy will be one of the most productive players in the state. There is no doubt in my mind that he will have multiple games scoring 20+ and getting 10+ boards. He is extremely skilled. He has a great skill set around the basket and uses his body to create angles for him to score. Jeremy has also showed his ability to step out and knock down mid-range jumpers at a high clip. The big guy has great hands and does a tremendous job sealing his opponent in the post. On defense he uses his 7'1 wingspan to his advantage. He is able to contest shots at the rim. Jeremy is more athletic than what he gets credit for. Look for him to have a great junior campaign for North Meck.

Davion Cunningham 2022

Davion is an elite athlete. In practice he was the most impressive player on the court. He was absolutely phenomenal. He is a pest on defense. (Both on and off the ball) We wouldn't be surprised if he averaged 3+ steals this year. He really excels in transition. He is able to beat his man off the bounce and finish at the rim. Not only can he get to the rim but he has a phenomenal pull-up.

Jordan Crawford 2022

Jordan is an athletic guard who can fill it up in a hurry. He is the best shooter on this North Meck team. Every shot he shoots, you feel like it is going in. He has a pretty shot and has deep range. He is also very shifty with the ball in his hands. His length and athleticism allow him to guard multiple positions.

Tony Waters 2021

Tony is a scrappy / tough point guard. He has made major strides in his game. He has taken over the leadership role for this team. He is the head of the snake. He does an exceptional job controlling the pace and putting his teammates in positions to succeed. He is the perfect piece to the puzzle with the amount of talent that is around him. The floor general also has the ability to knock down perimeter shots and pull-ups.

Langston Boyd 2024

The young freshman has a chance to be really good. He has all the tools that will make him a division 1 player. He is an athletic guard who has the ability to get to the rim and finish over bigger defenders. Not only can he finish at the rim, but has a really good pull-up game as well. He is going to continue to keep getting better during his time at North Meck. In a couple years a lot of schools will be all over him.

Cam Gates 2021

Cam is a tremendous shooter. He has a pretty shooting stroke and can absolutely fill it up quick. He is a microwave coming off the bench. He is a great weapon who would probably start on most high school teams. Last year, he had multiple games in double figures.

Josh McClary 2021 Roanoke Signee

Josh is a really savvy player. He has a high basketball IQ. He makes great decisions on the court. He is the ultimate glue guy for North Meck. He is a player who can play multiple positions and will be asked to play multiple positions.

More Players to Look Out For

Michael Myrie 2021 – Extremely athletic guard. Good cutter. Slasher. Has the chance to be a really good defender.

Donavahn Hagler 2021 – He dunked everything is practice yesterday. Athletic wing who really excels in transition. He is a really good help side defender coming over to block shots and take charges.

Maxwell Coles 2022 – He is a scorer who can really fill it up. Shifty, crafty guard who has the ability to create his own shot. Microwave off the bench.

McCall Johnson Jr. 6'6 – Great weakside defender. Not scared to give up his body for the team. Takes a lot of charges from the weakside. Extremely tough.

Tyree Bracey Jr. 6'6 Wing – Shooter
