When experience meets opportunity, incredible things are capable of happening. With Christian Hampton and Dean Reiber (two of the best players in Northwest Guilford's history) departing, it's only fitting that someone steps up and enters the new leadership role. Nothing is definite, but it feels like Connor Ballou is the odds-on favorite to assume that position and list of responsibilities. Already a two-year varsity player, Ballou has the skill, upside, and necessary playing experience to properly take the reigns.

Widely regarded as a three-point specialist, Ballou knocked down a total of 44 three-pointers on solid efficiency last season. He proved to be one of the most reliable spot-up threats on the team but also showed flashes of being able to operate off the dribble and make plays for others decently well. Ballou moves well without the ball, plays conservatively on offense, and understands how to effectively disrupt his assignment on defense. He started in 29 games last season and will be their only returning starter. That being said, it should be fascinating to see his progression going into next season. Going from a shooter to a dynamic offensive threat is a tall task but one we've seen work fairly well at Northwest Guilford over the years.

Right now, Ballou has already begun hearing from a variety of college programs. He's received interest across all levels but holds no offers and will look to prove himself throughout the upcoming season. He was also a standout last summer with the NC Gaters, arguably showcasing more of his game than we saw during the high school season. There is a lot to be optimistic about going forward, especially if Ballou continues to work and take the necessary steps to emerge as a leader over these next few years.
