POB’s Eye Catchers from Phenom Queen City Showcase (Part 2)

2025 Andrew Grimes (Raleigh Raiders): We told you about Grimes a while back and he continues to play at a high level and catch more eyes with his game and skill set as a young prospect.' The 6'7 forward has a great feel on the court, carving out space and playing big down in the paint and on the boards, but also surprising many with his ability to step out with his mid-range shot, his...

Players to Watch for in the NCHSAA State Championships: Seventy-First v. West Charlotte

6'8 '23 James Scott (Seventy-First) Given the difference between these two rosters (especially following the Donovan Raymond injury), Scott could ultimately be the biggest x-factor on either team. He's just extremely reliable on both ends of the floor, and that should allow him to naturally affect all facets of the game within the flow of the action. Scott is long, poised, and really embraces...

West Charlotte advances to the NCHSAA 3A State Championship

West Charlotte advances to the NCHSAA 3A State Championship  For head coach Jacoby Davis, this season has had its fair of adversity, with a late season injury to 6'8 star Donovan Raymond. Last season, West Charlotte was in the I-Meck 4A Conference, which was probably the toughest conference in the state. With realignment, West Charlotte moved to the 3A in the newly formed Queen City 3A/4A...

POB’s Eye Catchers from #CHC12 (Day 1, Part 2)

2022 Ji'meion Brown (York Prep): Brown brings good size and versatility to the floor at 6'7, being effective in an array of ways and showing off his mobility at his size. Brown helped in an array of ways to help secure the big win, scoring down low, running the floor well, being active on defense with five steals, and helping on the boards; just a glimpse of all that he can do on the court. 2023...

POB’s Eye Catchers from Halloween Havoc (Day 1)

2022 Landon King (Charlotte Guards): King continues to fly under the radar but caught a few more eyes with his 33-point performance to start the day. King continues to show his aggressive nature and ability to score, especially attacking and getting to the basket.  He plays within the offense but can really take his game to another level when he is locked in offensively and scoring in an...

Dawkins’ Standouts from Phenom September Classic (Day 1)

By: DeAjai Dawkins 6'1 2022 Landon King (United We Stand/West Charlotte) Landon has always stood out to me given his fearlessness on the floor, and his ability to score in impressive volumes when hot. The scoring guard thrives in scenarios where he's guarded by players with matching size. West Charlotte will find a ton of value this season in King's ability to produce from both the mid-range...

Dawkins’ Standouts from Phenom Summer Grind (Day 1, Part 2)

By: DeAjai Dawkins 6'5 2023 Brock Rose (Team Synergy/Ardrey Kell)' Brock Rose has consistently proven himself to be one of the more talented scorers in almost every single event I've ever watched him play in. I heavily take that into account when speaking about him to others. He's someone who I believe could easily lead a varsity program in scoring, but plays on a team full of talent. I believe...

POB’s Eye Catchers from Phenom Summer Grind (Day 1, Part 2)

Will Jenkins 2022 Will Jenkins (Team EAT): Jenkins simply plays with a fire in his game.  He always plays hard, is a vocal leader, and absolutely love how he gets after it on the defensive end. He is an in-your-face, scrappy, hard-nosed defender that likes to be a pest for an opponent.  Offensively, Jenkins is strong with the ball in creating space while finding his teammates.  He...

Charlotte Guards duo impresses in Rock Hill

The duo of 2022 6'1 Landon King and 2022 5'10 CeDrek Mangum had it going in Rock Hill this past weekend at the Coach Rick's TOC.' King is one we have seen multiple times before, with a lot of it being this past high school season at Independence. The guard really has shown consistently how much of a scoring guard he can be and help carry the load offensively.' His ability to operate and score...

Phenom Spring Tip-Off Day 2 Standouts

Joe Richey (Upward Stars) Richey is a strong, aggressive player that is an integral part to his team. He can run the floor if needed, but thrives when he has time to post up down low. Isaiah Golden (Charlotte Dragons Bates 17U) Bates is a hard worker on the court. He sees the court well and drives the ball with authority. He is the ultimate team player. Jashaun Hawkins (Boo Williams Carolina)...

POB’s Eye Catchers: Phenom Jamboree Bash/ Hoop State League (Part 2)

2022 6'6 Daniel Sanford (Cougars 704): Sanford continues to make his game known and he continues to expand with how he can operate on the court.  First off, he looks and plays like a grown man on the court, physically outmatching everyone for the most part.  But it is his work ethic on both sides that should have big-time schools calling his way. 2022 6'4 Silas Demary (Chris Clemons...

2021 Brandon Cherry (Full Court): Cherry plays with a really good, natural feel for the game on the court.  He doesn't force things on the court that aren't there, plays with a nice pace and with his head up, looks to find his teammates but also shows a smooth jumper. 2022 Landon King (Patriots): King is a name that should catch on more in the Charlotte area for Independence. He was able to...

Phenom Open Gym: Independence

Continuing our Phenom Open Gym Tour, Patrick O’Brien went down to Independence high school who is coming off a 22-8 season last year. Coach Davis will have a different looking team than last year, as they will be more of a guard-oriented team that looks to play fast, create havoc defensively, and attack. But it will also be a team mentality, as they have options as far as scorers and will have to help get on the boards.

Brandon’s Big-Time Ballers: Day 3 at Summer Havoc

6'3 2021 Kymani Knox (Upward Stars)- Knox is an absolute load in the middle to deal with, he just a tough kid. When Knox builds up steam he comes through the lane like a wrecking ball. Knox is built for contact and he knows it, he converted several tough finishes, the defense had no choice but to foul. Knox defended the paint admirably and ate the glass up, he's a true competitor and will do all...
