College programs have a chance to look out and learn more about a sing guard at Hargrave, as Phenom Hoops was able to get a great view of 2023 6’0 Kailon Nicholls. When watching the senior guard, he really elevated his play on the floor, as Nicholls is an explosive guard (41’ vertical) that played with a ton of confidence. He is able to score the ball in a variety of ways, really attacks the lane and can get to the rim, and uses his long wingspan (6’7) to finish around defenders or at the basket, but he also showed that he has confidence with his shot-making ability. Nicholls’ ability to get to his spots, be a playmaker with the ball in his hands, and be a leader on the court. It is why we believe that this is a guard that should only see his recruitment take off after his year at Hargrave. One to really watch for.
Recruitment:
Playing at Hargrave and from what we saw, we got a feeling that more college programs will be looking his way. Right now, Nicholls holds an offer from Niagara but when speaking with him, he mentioned that schools like Milwaukee, Davidson, West Virginia, Seton Hall, Duquesne, Fairleigh-Dickinson, St. Mary’s, Appalachian State, Howard, Charlotte, Colgate, Robert Morris, UMass Amherst, and NJIT have all reached out.
What Was Said:
“Hargrave just continues to have a guard that leaves an impression on us and it looks like Nicholls is next up. The 6’0 guard made play after play all throughout the game, whether it was creating off the dribble and finishing or knocking down tough shots. Nicholls filled it up all over the court, showing his burst of speed to get by defenders while also using his impressive 6’7 wingspan to finish around defenders and at the rim. If he wasn’t doing that, Nicholls was able to create space for his jumper from multiple levels, as well as make plays in the open floor to find his teammates at times. He was a tough scoring option in this one, as he finished with 20 points in impressive fashion.”
