Coach Craig Dawson has coached at Forsyth Country Day and now at Woodberry Forest. The former Wake Forest and ACC star has seen his fair share of quality players over the years. Several years' back, he gave us advanced notice on an 'up and coming' Sacha Killeya-Jones. Killeya-Jones turned out to be pretty good as he has committed and signed to play for the University of Kentucky and was just named to the McDonald's All American team. We're not saying Max Johns will become another Sacha Killeya-Jones, but it's hard not to realize Coach Craig Dawson has another special player sitting in the wings.

This year, Coach Dawson has another promising young prospect in 6'4 '18 Max Johns. Like many of the players at Woodberry Forest, he is a true 'student athlete' and academics are equally important as the success on the basketball court. Fortunately, for Max Johns, he is achieving both. In speaking with Head Coach Craig Dawson, he stated, 'Max's game can be characterized as silky smooth. His demeanor and movements make it look easy. He possesses great guard skills and rebounds extremely well for his size. His basketball IQ is off the charts. Max is beloved by the faculty, students, administration and community at Woodberry Forest School. He embodies everything that you want in a true student-athlete.'

This season, Max is averaging 12 PPG, 5 RPG, but also sports an impressive 4.3 GPA in the classroom. He speaks fluent Chinese and is already taking Honors 5 Chinese as a sophomore. He takes all honor courses, is an editor of the Woodberry Forest poetry and short order book, plays the cello, and is a member of the school's soccer and tennis team.

His father played football at the University of Virginia and he is projected to be at least 6'6. Max was also selected as Scrimmage Play Magazine 2014-15 Basketball Newcomer of the Year Nominee. Max has a tremendous work ethic and a high basketball IQ. He's an excellent defender and an active rebounder. He is really good at finishing at the rim. Currently, Max is getting interest from Yale, Princeton, Lafayette and a few others. However, we fully expect this list to grown sooner rather than later.
