Name to Know
Phenom’s Millbrook Showcase Breakout
5’10” 2018 Maurice Wilcox of Neuse Christian
Maurice Wilcox is a high level shot maker. Not only that, but Wilcox also has confident handle and very good vision in the half court. Division 1 schools should be calling on him regularly.
Wilcox has been a name that has been on the tip of people’s conversations but has yet to have that breakout moment. He has always been on the verge but not burst into true prospect status, that is until his showing at Phenom’s Millbrook Showcase.
In the game against defending North Carolina 4A state champion Garner, Wilcox finished with 24 points on 4 3s. He has a very quick release, with deep range and great form. He was able also get into the lane in the half court and made the extra pass, when needed.
Wilcox played AAU with the Raleigh Elite program. He was at Raleigh’s Word of God last season, as he was able to experience the magical season that that guard heavy program experienced. He took the good from that, and carried it over to this Neuse Christian team.
Neuse Christian is a great fit for what Wilcox does. They strive for 90 possessions per game and play with an unnamed 7 second shot clock. This up-tempo type of offense, with his ability to shoot, handle, and pass allows for him to maximize his skill set, and put up monster numbers.
Moving forward, expect Wilcox to really maximize his skill set here. He will have some monster numbers in both the scoring, steals, and assists categories. As we mentioned above, Wilcox is a Division 1 kid and schools should start on him now.
