AAU Club Name: Boo Williams

AAU Coach Evaluation: Lamont is very skilled guard that can play on the ball as a PG because he handles it very well; he's smart and is a very good passer. He can also play off the ball because he shoots it well and can create off the dribble. He has good size and quickness that enables him to defend multiple positions from the 1-3. Lamont has a good mid-range jump shot and he is a willing passer who looks to get his teammates involved. Lamont is a key player on one of the state's top teams and has played a vital role in their current run for the 6A State Playoffs. – Coach Rodney Berry, Boo Williams AAU

Personal: Lamont also plays summer basketball in New York for NY Gauchos, New Heights and Milbank. Full name is Lamont Thornton Oliphant, his father is New York Street ball legend Lamont Thornton, aka Tip Dog who is featured in 'Legends of the Blacktop' and scored a record 53 points in an EBC Rucker game. A record that stood for several years until broken by Kevin Durant in 2011. His father also played collegiately at University of New Orleans for former NBA Coach Tim Floyd. His uncle is Mike 'Boogie' Thornton who is also featured in 'Legends of the Blacktop'. One of his trainers is the legendary God Shammgod who played collegiately at Providence and briefly in the NBA for the Washington Wizards. Needless to say Lamont Oliphant is tied to street ball royalty in New York.

Coach Frank says: I have been watching Lamont for two years and I'm seeing a more assertive player emerge from a guy who always had good instincts, sound fundamentals and good length. Lamont is a lanky combo guard with very good quickness, explosive uplift and very good athleticism. He handles the ball very well and is a disciplined and efficient playmaker with good court sense, also a very good passer and decision maker. He attacks the basket as a threat to score either at the rim or with a pull up jumper or floater and also is a passing threat in attack mode. Lamont moves well without the ball, catches the ball ready to attack his defender, has an array of separation moves, a quick first step and can hit the jumper off the catch and off the bounce with very good consistency. He has excellent shooting fundamentals, good consistency at all three levels and plays on balance. Lamont is also a strong on ball and team defender coming from a high school program where a player must excel defensively to stay on the floor. He has lockdown defensive ability using both long arms and quick feet to contain the ball handler and tip passes. Also rebounds the ball well and finishes at the rim. Just a sophomore I've seen so much growth in his game in such short time but his physical growth and assertiveness has really skyrocketed making him an impact level player. Lamont is a three sport star at Landstown High School having also participated in football and track. Coaches should keep their eyes on Lamont Oliphant as he has all the tools and the work habits to be a solid prospect for coaches at all levels as his high school basketball career continues.
