Appalachian State had a few key guys to replace from this past season and they made sure to target specific players that could not only help next year but in the coming years as well.
With the players they have been able to sign though, they will certainly look to make their mark on the program. Let’s dive into the 2020 recruiting class so far for the Mountaineers.
6’9 CJ Huntley (Davidson Day)
- Huntley brings intriguing size and unique ability as a prospect. He has grown tremendously in his capabilities, not only being a defensive presence down low and around the paint but also one that has scoring touch inside and out when the opportunity arrives. Huntley has a wiry frame and moves really well on the court, running the floor and showing a high motor. He has the ability to knock down the mid-range shot and even a three here and there, while also having soft hands and good footwork around the basket.
6’5 Michael Eads Jr. (Edgewater HS)
- Eads is a 6’5, 200-pound prospect that was a prospect that was gaining traction earlier in his recruitment with high-major programs but suffered an injury that has now led him to Appalachian State. He has tremendous size that allows him to score, as well as guard multiple positions. He is also a leader on and off the court. Eads has the ability to impact the game in multiple ways, whether it is scoring on multiple levels, rebounding, or distributing. He has a great story behind him and will be a fan favorite for sure.
6’0 Michael Almonacy (Southern New Hampshire)
- A guard with experience, Almonacy will play a key part for the Mountaineers. He provides needed ball-handling in the back court but also showed that he knows how to score, as he averaged 15.6 points on 44.6 percent shooting at Southern New Hampshire. He found openings and has plenty of game experience, starting 27 games last year. Almonacy also will provide a threat from outside, averaging 2.7 3-pointers and shooting 42.9 percent from the arc.
6’4 Deshon Parker (James Madison)
- Parker will have to sit out the 2020-21 season but Parker will be a solid addition to this program. Playing at James Madison the last two seasons, Parker racked up 63 games under his belt, starting 48 of those games. This past season, he started in 30 games and averaged 10 points on 43.7 shooting, while also leading his team in assists with 120 on the year. Parker is one that provides size up top but also a true floor general, along with leadership and playmaking ability.
6’3 Xavion Brown (Sheldon HS)
- Brown is a 6’3 guard that simply can fill up the stat sheet with his ability and athleticism on both ends of the floor. This past season, Brown averaged 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game at Sheldon high school. He is incredibly athletic on the floor, showing off his bounce, finishing strong at the rim, while also showing that he can make an impact in multiple ways.
6’9 RJ Duhart (NW Mississippi CC)
- Like Huntley, Duhart brings a 6’9 frame that will be able to help man down low. Playing at NW Mississippi CC last year, he started in 23 games and averaged 11.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, while also recording 47 blocks as well. He can really be a double-double type player for the Mountaineers in the coming years, as he has three years left. Duhart has the skillset to score down low in the paint as well as the perimeter, as his versatility will soon catch your eye.
