Metrolina Christian traveled to Northside Christian for a conference matchup and the home team came away with a 66-53 win, led by Glen Hubbard, Jaden Seymour, and Jalen-Hood Schifino. Let’s take a look at these guys and a few others from their performance in this one!
6’8 2020 Jaden Seymour: Northside Christian (13 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Steals, 3 Blocks, 2 Assists)
Jaden Seymour maintained his high level of productivity throughout this one, showcasing his abilities as a do it all wing forward, showing flashes of absolute dominance inside. He came out of the gates with a full head of steam, dunking all over Citadel Signee Stephen Clark early on, and got things going early on for his Northside squad. His 2nd and 3rd quarters were not his best, he just wasn’t in sync with his teammates and actually started off the 2nd half on the bench, but he took it well. When Seymour checked back into the game he brought a ton of energy on both ends of the court, using his length to force turnovers, leading to easy buckets on the break. He holds offers from USF, Virginia Tech, and NC State. Expect that offer list to grow because Seymour is a guy that is simply an asset to any team.
6’4 2022 Jalen Hood Schifino: Northside Christian (15 Points, 5 Rebounds, 2 Assists)
Jalen Hood Schifino is one of the top freshman in the country and he showed flashes of brilliance last night. Like Seymour he struggled in the first half and sat on the pine to start the 3rd, but responded greatly by taking command of the offense, making the right reads, and leading his team to a win in the 2nd half. His confidence in his jumper is improving at a rapid rate, he still doesn’t take them very often, but steps into it with a ton of confidence when he does. Jalen is the kind of elite talent that is designed to play with other great players, he reminds me a lot of Tre Jones in the way he approaches the game. Getting his teammates involved early is how Schifino gets comfortable within a game. He’s incredibly physically gifted for a Freshman, scores it at every level, and has the IQ and court vision that translates to the next level. As he continues to refine his skillset and limit mistakes, Schifino will be one of the hottest commodities in the 2021 class. He currently holds offers from Florida, Virginia Tech, and USF.
6’2 2021 Glen Hubbard: Northside Christian (16 Points, 7 Steals, 4 Rebounds, 3 Assists)
Glen Hubbard was the best player on the court tonight regardless of the team. He was extremely active on defense and was the most consistent presence for his squad on that end of the court, bringing a ton of energy, creating havoc for stretches on the defensive end. Offensively he was in a zone unlike I’ve ever seen him in a high school setting, taking total command of the offense, making his 3s, knocking down runners, and coming up with timely baskets when his team needed them most. I hope Hubbard builds off this performance for the rest of the high school season and into AAU, if he does, expect his name to become a topic of a lot more conversations around recruiting than it currently is.
6’6 2019 Cortez-Marion Holmes: Northside Christian (UNC-Pembroke Signee) (16 Points, 9 Rebounds, 3 Steals)
Cortez was a consistent presence throughout this one, especially in the 2nd half where he started to really bring the energy when his team needed it most. He can be absolutely dominant for stretches 12 feet and in, using his strong frame, and agility to create space for himself down low. He shrugged off some uncharacteristic mistakes and found a way to bounce back quickly, coming up with some key plays down the stretch when Metrolina showed signs of life and almost came back. UNC-Pembroke was in the house for this one and they have to be excited with the fact that Cortez will be suiting up for them next season!
6’8 2019 Stephen Clark: Metrolina Christian (Citadel Signee) (16 Points, 5 Rebounds)
Clark had stretches in this one where he was the best player on the floor. He’s so incredibly skilled with his back to the basket that every time he was able to get position down there it felt like an automatic two points. As Clark gets on a college weight and meal program, expect him to add the necessary strength to be a really productive college player sooner rather than later. As he adds strength and consistency on the perimeter jumper (A shot he’s capable of making) Clark should be at a point where he can be dominant at The Citadel. He had his moments tonight against a really good team, and he has the potential to be even better than he already is.
6’2 2019 Tate Johnson: Metrolina Christian (26 Points, 6 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 5 3s Made)
Tate Johnson solidified to me last night that he’s a bonafide scholarship worthy prospect. His ability to take and make tough shots cannot go understated. It’s very clear that this Metrolina team will go as far as Tate Johnson can take them. Clark is the better overall prospect, but it’s clear that Johnson is the on-court leader of this group and they follow his lead. He scores it with a high level of efficiency for a perimeter oriented guard and does a great job limiting mistakes. He’s a calming presence for this group and they’re a SIGNIFICANTLY better team when he’s on the court. D2’s throughout the region in need of a point guard or a shooter should look no further because Tate Johnson is someone that deserves attention from those coaches.
