Dayton 80 – Georgia 61

Georgia came in averaging 90+ points per game but Dayton clamped down to hold UGA's starters to 23 total points, including holding Anthony Edwards to 6 points (2-of-10 shooting). The story of this one was Obi Toppin, a 6'9 versatile prospect that showed his ability to score from the perimeter as well as body up and play physical around the paint. They simply couldn't stop him to start the game as he ended his night with 25 points. Dayton overall was able to use their defense to help their offense (created 23 turnovers for 22 points), while also knocking down 10 three's as well.

Virginia Tech 71 – Michigan State 66

Game 2 was an absolute battle. Michigan State had the size and finished strong on the boards but Virginia Tech’s energy, movement on defense, and ability to knock down outside shots from three was key. For much of the game, the teams traded blows but Virginia Tech created a 10-point cushion with 5 minutes to go. But Michigan State turned it up a notch on both ends to cut into that deficit quickly. Down by 2 with under two minutes to go, redshirt freshman came up HUGE with two buckets, while Wabissa Bede came up big with free throws and rebounds to help seal the deal. Nolley finished with 22 points, while four others were in double-figures.

(Nolley and Bede scored the Hokies last 17 points)
