Matt Williams has the pedigree, Lord does he have a lineage of basketball players. His father, Matt, and his older sister, Kayla, both played college ball at Nevada. Matt’s other sister, Gabby, was the 4th pick in the 2018 WNBA draft after a career at UConn.
At 6’3” Williams himself, is an accomplished athlete. He won Nevada state championships in the high jump, with a 6 feet 7 inch jump and the 110-meter hurdles at 14.31 seconds. He had numerous power 5 offers for track and field, but his heart lies in basketball. After averaging 20 points per game last season, Williams decided to do a post grad year at Aspire Academy in Louisville, Kentucky.
At the Hargrave Military Challenge Williams exploded for 32 points. He did it in every which way as well. Williams shot the 3-ball well, he got to his spots off the bounce. He defended multiple positions and elevated high for a couple of dunks. Williams played a pretty complete game here, showing no real holes with his abilities.
It will be interesting to see what kind of offers Williams picks up. He carries a 3.8 core GPA as well as a 24 ACT. Youngstown State and Fairfield have already offered, more are sure to come.
