Being part of the success at Independence over the years, now 2021 6’4 Nygell Verdier is hoping to continue his success at his next venture at TLAP Sports Academy this upcoming season. And it seems like he is getting an early start this summer, playing for Anthony Morrow Elite.
Verdier brings a lot of intrigue with his game. At Independence, he showed that he could be productive on multiple levels and play multiple positions, but not be flashy with his game; simply productive. He is now showing that and a little bit more this summer, as he seems to be a man on a mission to prove to everyone.
“My goal since we lost to North Meck in the Elite Eight has been to just dominate in every single game I play in,” he told Phenom Hoops. “Whether that is scoring or just finding a way for my team to win by defense, rebounds, and just flat out being a leader on the court.”
In his most recent event with Phenom Hoops, Verdier scored on all levels and put up some impressive performances, including a 30+ point performance. He scored from the perimeter, initiated the offense and pushed the break, or got downhill at the rim with his size. He can play on or off the ball, impacting the game at multiple positions.
It is also why interest levels are rising for him, with schools like UNCG, Presbyterian, East Tennessee State, Mount St. Mary’s, and other D2 schools have been coming his way.
“(They have mentioned) how they will keep following me into the school season and they like how I’m a leader on the court and how I can score at all three levels, play intense defense, and crash the boards.”
Verdier has gone under the radar for some time now but with the mindset he has and another year to showcase his skillset, he could quickly become a hot target for many programs.
