Now that we’ve reached the month of July, basically every game represents the opportunity for players to be seen, evaluated, and offered by college coaches. While this notion is more applicable to seniors, several juniors and multiple sophomores will inevitably put themselves on the radars of next-level programs. Over the few months, we will take a closer look at various players who should warrant attention as scholarship-level prospects. The intent of this article series is simply to provide breakdowns of guys who coaches should know about. We will continue by looking at Cam Flippen of the Burlington School.

Anyone who has followed him over the years probably already knows what makes Flippen a difference-maker on the court. He sets the tone through his rugged, steady, intelligent approach to the game. Flippen is a physically overwhelming guard who reliably controls the pace and offensive action while shining as an all-around defensive cog. Offensively, he understands how to create clean looks for others and get the ball where it needs to go. Flippen picks his spots well to score from all levels, but shows clear focus on getting others involved. He displays smooth pace and a calm demeanor (with the right level of intensity) when the ball is in his hands. Flippen is a well-rounded offensive threat who can adapt to team needs with relative ease. On the other end, he’s a game-changing presence with the ability to cause problems for opponents. Flippen suffocates ball-handlers, intercepts passing lanes, and routinely forces turnovers. His toughness and strong frame allow him to defend bigger or smaller opponents. Flippen also rebounds well for his size/position.

Ultimately, college coaches want guys who contribute to winning. Flippen more than fits the bill. He’s the classic case of a player who genuinely will do whatever it takes to win and elevate those around him. Flippen can produce in a variety of different roles and doesn’t necessarily require a ton of touches to make a lasting impact. Entering his third season with this group, he’s a major leader and overall focal point for the Spartans. Expect Flippen to attract a variety of scholarship-level coaches over the coming months.
