We head out further in North Carolina to take a look at a junior that could be garnering more attention after another strong season. 2024 Tanzania Locklear from East Carteret had a terrific sophomore campaign, averaging 18.4 points per game, and is looking to have an even bigger year this year. Phenom Hoops recently spoke with Locklear about her preparation for the upcoming season and to learn more about her game.

Phenom: I know the season is just starting but how was your offseason' How did you prepare for your junior season and all' Did you play AAU, or train'

Locklear: My offseason was good, just taking time to get the right mindset and getting stronger to be better than I was last year. Before practices actually started, we have preseason workouts that the coach has us do, we work on different types of things we are going to need in the season. I played AAU this summer with Crystal Coast Hurricanes. To be honest, I didn't get to train that much because I was working as a volunteer but now every weekend that I can, Coach Jr from the Lady Heels Elite really helps me with my weaknesses and getting new moves down so that I can use them in games. I have been going to school to make sure I am on top of my grades, after school basketball practices throughout the week, and on the weekends I work.

Phenom: What areas of your game are you expecting to see the most improvement in this year and what are your personal expectations for this season'

Locklear: My shooting ability and left-hand finishes. My personal expectations are always to have a positive mind, no matter what is going on around me, and to lift my teammates up when they need it.

Phenom: That is a great attitude to have.  Do you have any personal or team goals for the upcoming season'

Locklear: Personal goal I have for myself is to be better than last year. For my team, to have good communication and have each other's backs.

Phenom: How would you best describe your game and how you like to operate on the court' What style best suits you'

Locklear: I would describe myself as an all-around player. I honestly like to make plays, be physical, rebound, and shoot. All the positions really know for my height, I'm not going to be the best center in the world but I'm going to try my hardest using everything I can to the best of my ability and having total awareness.

Phenom: How has your recruiting been going'

Locklear: I have no recruiting yet but for as long as I can remember, NC State has always been somewhere I want to take my career.
