The Lady Top 80 was off the charts the other week bringing some of the best talent from around the region all under one building. Several players really introduced themselves on the big stage of Lady Phenom, including 2027 Izabella Hernandez.
She was one of the smaller prospects at the camp but she is one that played well, competed, and captured my eyes each time we watched her. Hernandez is one who wants the ball in her hands and understands how to create as well as run an offense on the court; she is a true playmaker. She was able to do a tremendous job in leading the way, creating for others, making strong decisions on the court, and playing within the offense. But she also showed her grittiness and toughness on the court, especially with her willingness to attack the paint, create for herself off the dribble, and find ways to score or get to the line. Hernandez showed good quickness and creativity on the court, and I’m eager to see how she continues to develop and play this upcoming high school season.
Lady Top 80 Evaluation:
“Starting off, we look at a player who impacted the game extremely well despite her lack of size, Izabella Hernandez. She’s a smart, tough point guard prospect who can run the offense or play without the ball. Hernandez is a reliable playmaker and finisher who can knock down jumpers along the perimeter. She utilizes her quickness and instincts very well to mirror opposing ball-handlers defensively. Hernandez forces turnovers and rebounds effectively for her size/position. She regularly made her presence felt on both ends of the floor. Next in her development process is working to get stronger, as it would make her a more physical defender. Coach Baker on Hernandez: “Izabella is very coachable and has a high basketball IQ. She can set up teammates in various ways by driving and kicking. She is super-quick and has quick hands defensively. Love her defensive pressure and intensity. Shoots off the dribble and can knock down three-point shots. Really an excellent creator of her own shot as well.” Hernandez made a quality impact at camp and will be a key piece for Jacksonville over the coming years.”
